One thing for all of us who were at the workshop to consider— I don't know if it's the case, but reviewers may be getting a glut of MV images and subconsciously deciding they're seeing too many of them. I submitted 5 and got them approved, but I'm going to hold off on any more for a while and sprinkle them in a few at a time over the course of the year. Others may want to consider doing that as well. Could also mean a bit more exposure when they are approved.

None of mine have sold, yet, but that's been the trend with new submissions anyway for some time.

I'm with you on spreading them out a bit, as I submitted 8 and only got 4 approved. Of the rejections, one was chancing my luck, (night sky shot at high ISO), but I didn't think there was anything wrong with the other three - two have been posted here and the third was dinged for focus.

What I have noticed though, is that the four that were approved are similar to others approved, both in this thread and when I keyword search. It appears that Shutterstock are wanting the conventional shots perhaps?

You never know what a specific reviewer is looking for Jane. There are many "unconventional" shots approved everyday so I think it is more just a reviewer issue. There have been all types of shots approved from the workshop so that too lends me to think that it is just the reviewer. Hope the new one gets passed.

Thanks Dave, I hope they get passed too! Today, I've been processing a few I took at Bryce Canyon - I thought I'd ring the changes a bit and see how I get on with those. Hopefully, I was just unlucky with the reviewer on the ones from yesterday.

I have submitted this version with a note to the reviewer explaining that I have corrected lighting issues and added copy space. Let's hope this works!

Composition is fine, but am I the only one who sees significant banding in the sky on these?

I think that only appears in the small version posted on the thread, Russ, not the full-size image. Right, Jane?

The banding is only on the low-res save for web version. The full size files are fine :)

OK. I've never used the save-for-web option for anything other than an avatar so didn't know this was a side effect of that selection. I have seen it on JPEG's that were pushed a bit too far and that was my concern.

When I was scanning & uploading, I uploaded 1 per day. This was to stretch out my limited images over time and so hopefully the same reviewer did not see several similar images at once. In several scenic places I've got 15 images from the same spot. They were taken on different days so the sky is different but the mountains are the same.

Hey Laurin, I have to teach a Basic DSLR class this weekend so out of town until Monday, and I have work and home stuff to deal with between now and then. I will send you some by early next week to your e-mail address :D Gotta say I have seen some of the rejections posted here by others....you guys are completely right! I had one image rejected because I put in a text box with Monument Valley, Arizona in it...I should have said your text here....oh well ... lesson learned...I learn something new everyday :D

I wanted to post a separate thread about my experience during this workshop, but with the negativity related to Katrina's amazing video, I won't even bother so I am going to say my piece here...
1 Laurin - thank you for taking me under your wing years ago!
2 Dave - thank you for your computer help related to my Mac issues and questions from day 1.
3 Katrina - thank you for your emotional support before you even had a chance to meet and know me. And add to that forcing me to get out of my element and back into photography! Your star and night images have taught me alot (even if it seemed stressful at the time).
4 Mike - I was so excited to meet you after seeing your images...I had followed your port for so long and envied your talent! Once I met you and understood your background and knowledge it completely changed my idea of what "REAL" photography is. You are amazing and will do so well as an instructor!! FYI...I am always available to help with writing lesson plans and such!
5 Jane - thank you so much for your insight into my current photography skills and what I might be able to achieve with them in the future. You are AMAZING!
6 Lorraine - your help both during and after the workshop helped me to understand that I am not just a "stock shooter"...I am a photographer, and I will always remember our shopping day to help me get back into my element!
7 Murray - you gave me so much information and ideas, as well as helped me through a horribly traumatic experience! I will NEVER forget that I only made it to the ruins because of you!
8 Susan - you offered me so much PS advice! I wish I had a tablet and pen everytime that I spoke with you! I know I didn't capture even half of what you told me. You are a wealth of knowledge and hopefully some of it went in for when I need it.
9 Isabel - the one evening that I got to spend with you in the room Jane and I shared, as well as, the nights under the stars were terrific! (Esp. you sleeping on your towel while I was trying to remember to press that button every 30 seconds)...FYI .. I bought a remote release for $25 the other day that will totally beat that $150 infared release that I have for star shoots....You were so funny and made those long hours of no sleep bearable. Thank you so much!!!
10 Ken - I didn't get to know you very well, but I see that we have some things in common. You shoot for your church and I so respect that! I am not able to even discuss religion in my house because both my daughter and husband are what I guess is called "agnostic"...really hard to deal with if you believe in something! Thank you for the group ruins shots!!
11 Ami - didn't really get to know you to well, but I had a rough end to the workshop and the smile you gave me while saying "good bye", made me realize that I had another friend. Please keep in touch!!
12 Rob - I didn't get much time with you either, but I completely understand the medical issues that I heard you talk about related to your wife's illness. I am a microbiologist and MRSA is never fun. I have seen the best AND worst of that illness and I am AMAZED you were even able to attend the workshop. I wish both you and your wife the best! Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about those types of issues! While doctors are generally on target they don't always see the whole picture microbiologically.
13 and 14 - I wish I could remember the names of the couple...they were so nice! I hope that they will forgive me, but the were a lot of fun to be around. We spoke briefly at breakfast Sunday morning and a little while Saturday during the Anasazi shoot. I would love to talk more with them since they are both part of the medical and public health community as I am!

There is my rant...Off to bed so I might be able to look at more images early next week :D Good night all!!

Marlene,
Your welcome. Thanks for the nice words of encouragement. I'll keep you in mind when it's time to write lesson plans and syllabi but I still more than a year left on the degree. I'll help you, and everyone, as much as I can by email or the forum all you have to do is ask. (I owe you big time, after taking the group up the Moki Dugway, that's the name of the switchback road.)

I've been following this thread with interest. Some very nice photos have been appearing, especially the star trails and that one horse shot by SRichey. A friend of mine has been pestering me about shooting some star trails, so I may be hitting some of you up for tips.

Mike, having guided them up the Dugway and on to Mule Canyon, I'm surprised that you didn't hit the rock pinnacle at Muley Point on your return trip. That spot - with the pinnacle and Goosenecks in the foreground and Monument Valley in the distance - has to have one of the best views in the entire US. I'm going to pimp your shot.

Anyways, persist in your submissions folks. Some of my shots from recent shoots in Utah took a few attempts before acceptance.
