Hi

If you have PS CS5 already would you still make use of lightroom?
Im not sure if they compliment each other or overlap.

I have CS5 and lightroom, and I cannot really find a use for lightroom. This may be because I have been brought up on PS but I just think it does everything better than lightroom. I use bridge for file organising and keywording.

I use Aperture 3 alot...but I also have PS5 and LR4. My preferance is aperture and CS5 so far.

True about the batch editing. I tend to do most of my batch editing on the RAW files in DPP.

I use DXO for RAW batch editing. They usually reduce prices at the end of the year (Just in case somebody want to do the trial and like it). Great program for extract detail from shadows and highlights.

I like Mike do everythign in ACR, PS and Bridge, mostly ACR and Bridge.

One over looked feature in PS is the ability to batch edit from Bridge by simply going to Edit-Develop settings- previous conversion, or apply one of any of the custom conversions that you can create in ACR.
I have a series of Conversions saved and can apply them to any number of images selected in Bridge. This editing can be done a year down the road so I have not found a use for Lightroom in my workflow.
The ONLY thing I can see is that the human interface is more intuitive for those who have not previously used graphics/image editing software.

One of the other areas I use the automation of Bridge and PS is in the Batch renaming (if I forgot to do it when transferring from the CF card to the computer

Another you can see in the image below is append Metadata. I have created a template (one for each year) and it contains all my contact and copyright info, I can batch apply this to all images

Naturally I do batch keywording from Bridge, having created myself an extensive library of words from which I choose to keyword my images.

Finally after processing images, I can batch process them to make PSD's Tiff's or JPG's using the Image Processor function in Bridge

I'll add my two cents. Personally, I see no use for Lightroom whatsoever if you have Photoshop. I know people that use Lightroom exclusively and are happy with it. I like Photoshop and haven't found anything that Lightroom does (image manipulation wise) that I can't do in Photoshop.

not sure why anyone uses LR. It just seems like an extra step and exta learning for no improvement.
