For some reason unknown to me I have managed to make about 60 odd NEF raw files vanish from both backups. It isn't a major disaster as I have two copies of the TIFF versions and 3-4 copies of the JPEGS in several places.
I have managed to locate the original files in the folder they were in prior to sorting and renaming, using file recovery software (I've tried PC Inspector File Recovery and MiniTool Power Data Recovery) however when I restore the files to another drive and try to open them in UFRaw I get a "unsupported file format" error message. I am assuming this means the file is corrupt.
Does anyone know of any program that can either repair the corrupt files or perform a more "industrial strength" recovery from the drive?
PC Inspector FR specifies the condition of the files as poor so I'm not optimistic.
As I'd said it isn't a major disaster, I have all the files in other formats (infact I was shooting in JPEG for about three months before I started to work with RAW files anyway) but it would be good to get the files back if its possible (and doesn't cost the earth).
If its relevant the deleted files are on a FAT 32 USB drive and I "restored" them to an NTFS (Win XP Pro SP3) hard drive.
I think the files were probably deleted in September 2011(though I just discovered this today while, ironically, doing an audit of my backups!). |
