I am so excited, I just thought I would share it with all of my SS friends. I am running my first marathon today! 26.2 miles :). I have been running for about a year now. In the last year I went from being 296 lbs to 213 lbs :) Most of the weight loss due healthier eating, eating a plant based diet. Anyhow here goes nothing!!!

Good luck to you Shane! I know how changing one's eating habits and doing exercise can change you for the good. I had to do it when I found out I was diabetic. I lost 75 pounds but there is no way I could run a marathon! Besides the bad knees and ankles I would get tired driving that far! LOL

Well done and I wish you great success with the marathon. It will be quite an accomplishment.

Good luck.

26.2 miles for me requires something with wheels and an engine to go that far.

I ran when i was young but no more no way it beats you to death not to mention I'd be huff-en and puff-en after just walking a bit.

Good luck Shane!
Never run a marathon, but walked on two 50 mile walks coming in third on the first in under 12 hours, and winning the second one, so know a little bit about the mind set required to do long distances.

Thanks everyone! Well I did it! Here were the results:

Time: 4 hours 15 minutes 25 seconds
Pace: Average pace of 9 minute 45 second miles
Place (Age Group 25-29 (I am 29)) 8th
Place Overall 56th!

I ran the first half (13.2 miles) a little fast at 1 hour and 57 minutes, and I slowed down quite a bit in the second half and ran it in about 2 hours 18 minutes. Tons of fun! I am going to start training for an ultra marathon now (a smaller one of 50 miles)!!!! The marathon was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life! At 16 miles I hit "The Wall" this is when your legs are pretty much out of glycogen. At 20 miles it was hard because I realized I still had about an hour longer to run. At 22 miles my legs started locking up, but once I got to 23 miles the time went by quick and next thing I knew, I was finished!!!! Thanks again everyone :)
