The second one has better exposure. If you have difficulty telling this, check the histogram. The shot looks slightly out of focus though but hard to tell until we see the crop.

The second is better, but it could still stand to be a bit brighter.

Exposure aside were you thinking of submitting the shot? If so remember what I mentioned with the last shot about keeping the shot looking as natural and normal as possible? Why put the strawberry in the bowl of jam? The viewer will know that it is strawberry jam by the color and the strawberries on the plate.
I wouldn't point out the obvious, in fact this could drive away more sales than it would possibly generate.
If this was my shot I would probably shoot it using toast or an English muffin. Crackers would be further down on my list of things to use. But if I did use crackers I would have more than one present on the plate. I would also probably put the strawberries in their own bowl behind the plate. Again, don't over think these shots.
Just for a visual example here is a shot of mine that I did wanting to show some marble pound cake with a chocolate/hazelnut spread. How would the shot look if I took a piece of chocolate and a hazelnut and put it in the container holding the Nutella? It just would not look right. The viewer knows what it is so there is really no need to point it out.

Here is another with that shows a simple breakfast setup. Bread, jam and some juice. The addition of the strawberries really isn't necessary but as I mentioned if you wanted to put some in the background in a bowl there is nothing wrong with that.

ok, thank you very much for your excellent comments there is no doubt that I have a bad tendency to over write,
their examples have been very helpful, I have to get into my head the concept of simplifying the shot.
I will continue working.

General problem with your image is it is pooly lit, it needs more and flatter lighting.
To get acccepted it would need to be at least like this

You on a lap top Jeff? This just does not look right. Not like your usual adjustments.
