I am, it's very perplexing.
Any comments on the composition and settings for the above while I figure this out?

If you mean the photo of the model? She is placed in the centre and there is sun flare. Probably will get dinged for composition and uneven lighting.

That's my lovely daughter :) She was trying to look sad like she lost her slipper, haha.
Totally not seeing the sunflare? And where would you have placed her?

No wait. That's not my daughter! That's my very good friend. That was just for seeing if it posted any better after trying something different on PS.
I meant the balcony and the slipper.

Your daughter is hidden in shadow and out of focus in that image. Those, combined with the fact that she is so far in the background makes the connection between her and the slipper hard to make. She is essentially lost in the background.
Ideally, you would reshoot it with better lighting on her (even facing the other way would have helped) and less separation between her and the slipper. They are after all the subject. As is, the subject takes up about 1% of the image area (i.e. gets lost in the surroundings). Someone will likely mention that you shouldn't have her and the slipper in the middle of the frame. If you redo it with them closer together (and more tightly framed) you could easily have her and the slipper offset (even on the "rule of thirds" intersections"). Might be a tough shot to pull off but certainly far from impossible.

I'm not. That photo of April for example, I just re-saved the RAW photo to JPG as a test last night. I didn't crop it or do anything to it to have the untouched quality of the photo before I downsized it. It's better than the others, but still terribly pixelated (in the cropped version that space to the right is gone and she is out of the middle). I just used the largest image possible. Then I resized to 500 pixels on the long side, and it is slighty better but not much.

As in Edmonton 3 hours north? I was going to say something about your terrible hockey team, but decided it wouldn't be friendly :p
