I was videoing on a lake today when the winds really picked up. I loved the sound of the winds through the trees, but knew it wasn't going to translate well with my wide open mic holes. So I decided to cover them. I picked a couple of medium sized leaves, folded them into thirds, covered the holes and used a rubber band around the camcorder and the leaves to secure them. Worked great! I was quite happy with the results overall.

Anyone else have any thinking Outside the Box ideas that's worked for them that they'd like to share?

LOL...sounds like an easy fix except for the fact that if I did that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have captured the wonderful sound of the winds blowing in the trees that really made the nature video I was after.

Besides that, I do well on P5 with sound clips, and my nature sound clips are the most popular.

I do both too. I will use the video of the wind blowing the trees and then I will also extract the audio and submit it as a sound clip to P5. That's why it was important to get the clear sound of the wind and not the open mike crackling. The leaves worked wonderfully.

I have a Zoom H2 that I use occasionally, but since I'm usually videoing, it's easier just to extract it's audio. The Zoom is great for voice audios when I need them though.
