I highly recommend this tripods:

(all hitech still can't beat wood in terms of shock absorbation)
And this ballhead:
http://www.novoflex.com/english/html/products.htm
(click on tripod head they are called magic ball and they are do it simply upside down)

I agree, wood absorbs movement very well.And that magic ball looks very cool.
