Sorry if it has been already asked but i did not see.

What size for the jpg ? Must it be a thumbnail or a regular picture ?

Which version for eps ?

Are open paths accepted ?

Thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Here's what I do.

1) Create an RGB AI file using Adobe Illustrator on a 22" x 16" artboard
2) Check for open paths using a plugin (http://rj-graffix.com/software/plugins.html#SelectMenu)
3) Save as Illustrator EPS - version Illustrator 8.0 EPS
4) Export as JPG -- Quality: 10 -- Resolution Depth: High

(additional step for a different micro)
5) Open the JPG in photoshop -- image size to 50% -- save for web: largest edge being 270 ... this is used as the thumbnail

For SS I upload the EPS and large JPG. The http upload always appears to crash my machine, but it's just taking its time uploading the EPS. Most of my vector files end up around 3 MB and the large JPGs 1 - 6 MB.

I don't exactly know what SS's policy is on open paths but at least one other micro INSISTS on no open paths -- and since it's really not a big deal to check for them using the above plugin, I think it's a good idea to check them.

Happy creating!

I have downloaded Inkscape and unless i'm missing something it can save as eps but then you can't open that same eps in Inkscape if you wanted to change something. Am I thick or is there a way to get an eps open in Inkscape. :)

PS, What size canvas do you begin your drawing on or doesn't it matter. As you can probably tell, i'm new to this and have a lot to learn. Maybe there shoud be a new Vector forum. :)

Vectors are completely scalable, but something reasonable makes life easier for the designers .. ie 4 - 10 in etc. If a design is 8 x 10 and you import a graphic size at 30", the selection handles are way off the screen; you have to zoom way out to scale it down or go thru menu's and percentages, etc. Speaking from personal experience using them; others may have different ideas.

One other hint though, if you are using autotrace to get started ... size has big impact on the quality of the paths generated.

There are applications where no open paths limits the possibilities, like stitching on clothes. There are ways to get around it, but the result is often a more complicated illustration, making it more difficult to change colours and shapes for the customer.

Hi All

i'm trying to submit a vector and it says:

Not Approved: Please save vector as an Illustrator 8 file and reupload.

Do u know how I can edit this? I am using Adobe Illustrator CS. Does it mean I have to use Illustrator 8?

Thanks

You need to use the File > Export menu (which lets you save in Illustrator format but not EPS). That will bring up a dialog box with all your EPS options.

I am very new to vector images. I submitted some but they all came back with this message "This is not a proper vector. There is pixelation at larger sizes." What am I doing wrong? What size should I be saving at?

What application are you using to make your vectors?

Animations in gif would also be neat to submit, could you consider making that?

I'm still trying to figure out vectors lol have a few illustrations up, but want to try making vectors
