Illustrator 8 .eps files do not have a way to store IPTC metadata (keywords). But you can save keywords in .jpg preview file.

You can upload either 10 photos or 10 illustrations (10 eps files and 10 jpg preview files). The button "add a row" will help you in the last case :)

P.S. No, that's not hard. Actually I submitted my first vector illustrations ever made (now I'm ashamed of them :)) and they were all accepted.

I am new in vector. I don't want to buy Illustrator before knowing better. I have Inkscape and CS3. I made some vectors in Inkscape with svg extension and also save it as bitmap which gives png extension. I opened my picture in CS 3 but there is no path. I try everything and no path either with Encapsulated EPS in Photoshop. As SS doesn't accept svg and only EPS, I couldn't upload any vector picture.

Could you tell me why SS only accept EPS. Will I have to buy Illustrator to have my vectors accepted ?

Hope you understand my poor English.

Thanks

Hi, Pierdelune.
Try asking in the Illustrators section of the forum.
I think SS wants EPS at least version 8, because a lot of designers use that.

Thanks Jerry
I will have the Illustrator program next week. There is only one microsite that accept svg extension for vector. You might know that svg is scalable without any lost or jagged areas. Too bad that SS doesn't seem to accept it.

SS wants UP TO ver 8 so people with old versions of software can use the files too

You can also go with Corel Draw or Freehand to convert Inscape SVGs to EPS. Old versions of Corel Draw are really cheap at Ebay, I bought 1 x ver 9, and 3 x ver 7 for our 4 office computers for $150 in total. We don't need anything newer for our daily clipart work.

I've always read the forum posts but never posted. Its easier for me to read what the experts say and hope my questions are answered.

I tried a while back to submit vectors using PS with eps files but they weren't accepted. So, now I'm trying again with Illustrator. I really want to do this because I believe in my work and really enjoy it. My downfall is that I'm not a computer guru and am self-taught on PS so I'll be self-taught (with the help of forums like this and tutitorials) with Illustrator as well. Its a long road but I know it will be worth it.

Today I submitted a vector eps and small jpeg. Both were originally saved on my desktop so they are from the same file. The vector showed up for keywords but not the jpeg. I did it again - same thing. So, I submitted my jpeg as though its a normal illustration submission. I'm sure the reviewer will kick it back but...am hoping it makes it through.

Please, please tell me what I did wrong on this? I submitted like I usually do on HTTP.

Now, my major question. I have a lot of pds files saved with all the layers just as they were created. Can I open them in Illustrator and save them as eps? If I can, I will be so excited!!! Or, I can begin all over again. That's ok too. Anyway, when I save as an eps do I save it with layers or do I flatten it? I've been saving with layers.

I really love reading all the posts. It's cool to get to know people around the world. BTW...for those that are freezing this time of year...its a sunny 90 degrees here in the Caribbean.

Thank you all so much for your past and future guidance. D

YES! I think I did it! Now, if the reviewers accept my work I'll be even more excited.

After reading and studying all night, I did a trial and error on moving PDS files to illustrator flattening my layers and just converting them to objects. When I enlarged the illustrations to 600% I could easily see that the layers must be converted to objects and remain. Flattening caused distortion when the illustration was enlarged.

Still, I have a lot to learn and can't wait until my drawing is second nature.

Please, I still need a lot of help so if you see that I've gone off course or should do something different, I appreciate all comments. Diana

@Pierdelune

I use Inkscape too - you shouldn't have a problem with eps: Go File -> Save as and chose eps as format. You don't need any further programs to create an eps file!

I do save eps. in illustrator 8. However, when I do I find it's not a true vector, which is what I'm trying to create. They don't keep their clean lines when they are enlarged. Even when I save in CS3 I don't get clean lines.
