Well, if it's a NTSC DV camcorder, you might want to try AVI with NTSC DV codec. But I guess we'll need a bit more information on what kind of camera it is. ;-)

You might try and upload the footage just as you transfered it from the cam. If the camera is miniDV, you should have an aplication and maybe a DV codec. No editing, just trim and cut out the bad parts. The files will be huge, but good wuality. Don't even think about submitting WMV files (I think Windows Movie Maker cannot export to something else).
I have Panasonic GS180, complete with application (for transfering video) and Panasonic DV Codec. I use VirtualDub for cutting (small, free, fast application).

Simply put, this depends on what camera are you using, and if you're going to be shooting SD or HD.

All clips are unable to process for a little while. If it stays that way for more than an hour, I'd start to worry.

However, WMF is not a suitable format for this. If you can please use Quicktime MOV. If you can't use AVI.

These are the formats and codecs I've been using with success:

AVI with PAL DV codec.
Quicktime MOV with PAL DV codec.
Quicktime MOV with MJPG A codec.
Quicktime MOV with PhotoJPG codec.

Hardly any problems with these. Maybe one clip in 200 that need to be uploaded again.

I have just looked at my version of windows movie maker and as far as I can tell it only saves
as a "windows movie" (wmv) which of course is useless.

If you want an inexpensive solution, buy a copy of Roxio Creator 7 or later, it will allow you to save in several acceptable formats. However having said all of that I would recommend that you invest in a Macintosh system and edit in Final Cut Pro.

Good Luck,

Barbarella

No problem, I'm sure you can find some good software for your set up.

I used Roxio 7 for awhile and was quite satisfied.

The format which I was successful in uploading was MPEG-2.

I hope this helps.

AVI is a windows only format, MOV is originally a MAC format but it's available on PCs, too. (You'll need Quicktime Pro for that. <$100)

But the programm I'd suggest you to use VirtualDub. It's free, it comes with some incredible plugins and it creates AVI files.
