Ok, here the lowdown of HV20 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS2.
I spent 1 1/2 hours talking to Canon and another 1 1/2 hours talking to Adobe Premiere support;
1. Premiere will see and work with no problem in regular DV mode, no issues.
2. Premiere will not capture HD 1920x1080 from HV20.
3. Canon blames Microsoft windows.
4. Adobe blames Canon on using unknown codex or file characteristics.
.
No help from either company, I've experimented and found the following works but takes more time:
.
A. Work around:
1. Use HDVSplit to capture HD at full 1920x1080.
2. Convert M2T file into AVI with MPEG_Streamclip.
3. Import AVI file into Premiere.
4. Edit and Export to AVI and QT as needed with Premiere Pro CS2.
I hope they get this fixed by the time they release Premiere Pro CS3 in July.
The Canon HV20 does excellent HD video, easy to use and I'm very pleased with output. I've reused the same HD tape four times now and see no issue in quality. I'm re-recording over and over to see where I can expect to see visible problems. Regular DV tapes work great in HD also.
Best of luck!

I presumed in my initial research that the Hv20 came with a capture software, and presumed it would capture in a 'native format' which could then be opened by premiere for post processing and exporting to SS preferred formats.
Are my presumptions way off base?

I read in a different forum that the regular dv tapes are all you need, no need for the "labled" hd quality tape, have you expiremented with that in your hdv20? - man your comments are very cool, thank you!

So you say to:

1. Use HDVSplit to capture HD at full 1920x1080 -
is HDVSplit a program that comes with CS2?
adendum: just watched your clip: "Video of the US Flags at half staff at Ft Sam Houston Veterans Cemetery. Cars driving by Down road under tree branches. Don Despain of Rekindle Photo"
very impressive composition... your bookmarked. |

This is all a bit wierd Adobe premiere elements 3 has a HD programme you set it up on the very first page
before you enter but pro dosn't have such a setup page. Also canon have a disc in with the camera that is useless. Why they don't pack premiere elements 3 ?
The one canon have won't capture your camera? I payed £50 from a shop ligit, for APE3 so lt is a cheapish piece of software.
All this saveing in different formats is not good for the files. I have experianced a few distotion problems by saving in avi and converting that seam not to exist if I save in M2T and convert to jpeg.
I am sure the new version of pro will have HD as standard why have HD on premiere elements and not on pro???

Agree about the CD program that comes with HV20. It is only for still picture capture. It kinda looks like Canon is more proud of the 3mp still (terribly low quality) than they are of HD video. I agree that they should have included some kind of a basic HD video capture software program.
.
I need to UL about 30 more HD clips to SS, much better than the DV ones that are there now.

I also purchased the Adobe Production Studio Premium CS2 so I will get the free upgrade to CS3 in July.
.
HDVSplit is a freeware program I got off the net. I then use MPEG Streamclip to convert and save ... also a freeware program off the net.
Good luck! |

yes, Adobe specifies this. It is only working w/ Premiere Pro 1.5 full version. Not even w/ the trial! |

NOTE: You have 52 videos waiting to be submitted, but we're only displaying 50 at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. Submit this batch, and then return to this page when you're done to do the rest.
This is what you get if you do multiup loads in HD |

I think there is something screwed up with the site. I get this message even when up loading a bunch of DV or HD. I think it says something like I have 170 videos waiting when there are only a couple. |
