James,
It hardly explains you spending hours on the forum.
And what do you think was disrespectful about me evaluating the maths on how much money IS are making? |

James,
So what does happen to the other 80% of the money then? Are their costs that high? If so how come their new competitors can pay more than double that % even at the start of their businesses when the costs are at their highest?
And why did you leave here? Everyone I know is making way more money with this site than IS __ you said earlier it was a business decision __ you must have a pretty weird grasp of economics is all I can say.
Surely the 'business decision' would have been to stay where the money is __ or even better both sites, no? |

Also, even at old credit rates, you can get between 0.10-0.30 per download. You're the math wiz, average those out for me. That's right! 20 cents average. And what do you get per download here? 0.20 as well. Now, the new credits on the other hand....
|
I'm not sure this is a fair comparison -- even though we pay out .20 per download - this is a lot different than 20%... we pay out more than 35-40% of all net -- and we don't require exclusivity.
I like istock -- i think you should sell here AND istock...

Yup __ well said Jon & FNC!
New to stock photography I joined IS on 16 Nov and SS on 17 Nov and pretty much loaded up as many of my images as I could as quickly as I could to both sites.
Earnings to date are $38.50 at IS and $80 here __ I really don't think you need to be the Chief Secretary to the Treasury to work this one out? And I can't see why my own experience should be that different to anyone elses?
As Jon says __ sell at both __ they do presumably have a different customer base for starters. What on earth would be the point in being exclusive?
What I have suddenly found, since the new year started, my image sales have rocketed at IS for no apparent reason and most of them at the new credit prices too. Strange __ but good news all round! |

James - you were the first person on istock to greet me in any civilized form and I believe the first to download one of my pictures. For that intro into the RF biz, I'm grateful.
I did slag on Istock and I do still have pictures there. I had a plm and I was told by two different techs "oh well." My problem wasn't happening to everyone, so it wasn't a problem. Oh well. I also posted my question on the forums and Peebert deleted my post and said "that's what support is for, don't confuse the masses."
Istock is practically facism. Use sitemail to tell anyone about Shutterstock. You'll get banned. Mention it on the forums - deleted and gone. That's ridiculous. Who's worried? Watch this.
Istock Istock Istock.
If you read it, it's still there, it didn't get deleted and I think you have your answer.
I respect your photo skills, I respect what Istock does for all the members - but there are a LOT LOT LOT of problems with Istock.

I don't like this one bit... From what I've read above, if people can't discuss other sites on Istock doesn't mean that Shutterstock becomes the official sounding board on people's opinion on Istock. Lets remember that Jon here pays for the bandwidth, shall we? :-)
And if I may suggest this...lets end this vendetta as the topic has become less about exclusivity as intended and more of a duelling ground for individual egos. Nobody's going to convince the other to their way of thinking, and as such, this conversation is hardly conducive to any good coming out of it.
But then, that's just the way I think. Everybody is entitled to their opinions.

All I'm saying is that you can't even discuss SS over there. This place is more open. I like that about it.
I love Istock for what it is. I have about the same pictures up there as here. No big deal - I like it. I'm not trying to convince Jamesmcq that SS is good or going exclusive is bad. With how much he probly makes over there and the work required to get his collection up over here - it's probably not worth it for him. For me, for some of us, it is. :)
That's all..

You get a cool little icon thing if you go exclusive at istock! tempting :)
I just wanted to mention that its not JUST the price rise that an exclusive member gets, they are also going to develop extra sales channels that they couldnt do as no exclusive. (cdroms?)
Im not going to join the exclusive program i figure i may as well spread myself thinly, doing the maths i made 20% of my total photography earnings on istock, so basically they have a snowflakes chance in hell of getting me to sign that at this stage!
Having said that, if i had 2,000 images on istock, and a diamond cannister then I would be tempted... it would make things a lot simpler and easy to manage.
Lastly, my images on this site will be restored soon, I had to remove them a month ago (it was nothing to do with the exclusivity thing) |

james, if you have decided to become exclusive with istock just make sure you avoid any posts on their forum or even your sitemails. you never know when you are gonna offend someone and find out your accound has been terminated with absolutely no warning or no notice. and funny you may find thaty your ip adress is blocked so you cant even view their website...
make sure you keep your ideas and thoughts to yourself. for your own good... other wise hours of work uploading images and getting them approved poof!! all gone because some inspector or admin got offended or something.. you think it wont happen to you.. i thought i woudlnt happen to me...
