I think the same rule (only own images) is for Stock Photographers Club? I will make announcement.
And another question: Sould we remove the earlier posted links to not own images? It is very difficult, almost impossible - our Club forum is running from 2004. But old posts rarely displayed. |

If it's easy to remove them then yes, go ahead -- but if it's not easy, then you may leave them alone until we receive a complaint from the copyright holder, at which point we may request that you remove them.

Hotlinking is different than just linking.
The way I read it, if you are a photographer with photos at Shutterstock, you can put up thumbnails of your photos at your own site and have them link to the coresponding Shutterstock page for purchase.
If you host the images of the thumbnails yourself at your own site and link them over to Shutterstock, it's not hotlinking, it's just linking.
It would be hotlinking if you put the code for the thumbnail image and the source of that image pointed to Shutterstock. In that case Shutterstock's servers would have to deliver the image to a user at your site and that adds bandwidth on Shutterstock's end.
I can understand why they want to cut down on bandwidth issues like that. It not only costs money, but it could also lead to their servers getting overburdened and interfere with subscribers being able to get what they want quickly. |

Thank you. We will clean up the Club forum partially.
And I am seriously doubt that you would receive complaints from thr copyright holders. Our forum is visited not only by artists but by buyers too. And any mentioning there is publicity both for artists and Shutterstock.

it's odd, most other MS sites ENCOURAGE people to use hotlinks to their site -- they even provide the html code itself for each image. seems more like someone didnt think thru the impications of the new terms - lotsa worms on the floor now....
