Well i painted a little last night. I like it ok, but for some reason i picked up a pencil and started drawing a bit. It looked much better than my painting. I kinda like drawing better, it seems i have better control over the pencil rather than the brush. I just need to give a more time

There is a "cheats" way of painting but you still need some skill.
Get a sheet of glass the same size as the picture you wish to paint. Place the glass over the picture and start painting, do the tiniest details first as unlike painting on paper you cannot put the detail in last, as you will have covered it over.
Hope this makes sense

You'll get it, just keep practicing.. Most of all just enjoy your hobby.. Don't try to be good just try to feel it, the rest will come with trial and error (you'll start to know what works and dosn't).. Maybe a nice set of colored pencils and or pantone markers would be good 4U..

Hello Michelle, I have done both painting with oils and acrylics and drawing with a pencil. I, as you, like drawing better and the more you do it the better you get at it. I haven´t done it for a long time now, but when I was in school and at college used to do it everyday. There is a book called
How to draw what you see by Rudy de Reyna that is good in showing how to draw shapes and to use perspective, very good, you can see it at amazon. Also when I was gonna do a drawing from a photograph I used to make a photocopy of the picture, it aided me to see better the shadows and the lighting. Acrylics to me are better to begin with, it is a more forgiving media and kind of trains you for the oils. I don´t have photos of my drawings or paintings almost all of them I have given away to friends. Here are a couple.

I took some art classes in college just because I thought it was fun and loved the teacher....turns out I wasn't as artistically challenged as I thought...but I'd really like to try painting as well....I've always thoguth of buying one of those Bob Ross starter kits or something but never really got around to it... maybe 2008 will be the year I give it a go.

Good for you!
Perhaps you will find you enjoy drawing more than paint.
There are so many diffrent mediums that you can choose from.
Like mentioned above, you might enjoy color pencles, or felt pens, or a mix of them and paint.
heck crayons are great too!
try it all, you might just find something you absolutely love
love to see some of your stuff as you feel its ready to show the world
:)
most of all HAVE FUN!

One more. Oil and glue on gause. 60 X 80 I love showing painting, never have, here anyway. They mean so much to ya. Each one is like a child or something. Everytime I had a gallery show, I hated it when someone bought them. I really struggled with letting go of them. I know theres some that understand this. It's such an emotional thing to spend so much time with something and the pain that went into some pieces.such a world apart from stock Photography. If any of you have ever stared at a blank canvas for days you'll get it. and know why Van Gogh cut off his ear...It's just you, a brush, a canvas and some paint. LOL
