I reckon it could be interesting to learn exactly what is Shutterstock's policy on people who steal images like that...

If you can't prove it's yours, then they permanently ban you. The copier might have made his version on his own, but each stroke is in the exact same place

Best way to be able to prove it's yours: submit a cropped version for review and sale, keep full area version, so you can show where the image was cropped from. Regards, Ken

Just for the record: I've sent SethO a link to this thread. I expect he did get many such PMs, but since noone said he's send one, I thought better send one more in case noone did...

What a clever idea, in the shots that you actually have detail outside the crop area, i.e. not in the white background isolated images, for exameple...

I've heard they do that with paintings, not showing the whole canvas to the public in museums, but I could be wrong.

Regards.

That's a very good idea to crop the vectors! If you have unprocessed photos shot in RAW, prooving you're the owner should be no problem.

I don't get why people do anything like that... They risk all the profit they could have gotten without stealing.

How do you find things like this? There are so many images out there, how would you know if you stuff got stolen?

Have you considered that it may be made by a with a series of filters or tools, or perhaps even a tutorial program. There is a "small" likelyhood that this wasn't a straight ripoff

I do agree, of course. This original image is one of the Top 50 Ever, so it's quite easy to find. Maybe it's just pure coinsidence that the 2 images seem pretty much the same, except the colours and the fact that the 1st is a vector. I honestly would have thought that this sort of similarity shouldn't be allowed. But it seems that maybe it is ok, because the user wasn't banned, both images are active. Well maybe that's the way to go- look up Top 50, create the same image, change colous and off you go. By the way , the user in question also has a few more images in his port made using other people's images.

Much the same , except for colour, and the 2nd been turned around. Another coinsidence?
Well, perhaps, it is non of my business anyhow, it is just that i feel that had someone been so CLOSELY 'inspired' by my own designs, i would have been less than amused. And afterall it is just wrong for people to think that it's OK to copy...ok, i shut up
