Yeah... with the quality of your work, I'm sure it must happen to you quite a bit. But if it turns out you can get a direct agreement with that site, so much the better, you're right... Turns a negative into a positive as you might even sell many more shots through him that he had! Best of luck with that :-)

My apolgies if this has already been pointed out as a typo, I did not read entire thread ... but how would you only end up with $1.60 from an EL sale? I'm hoping I'm not missing something in the contract.

An EL sale over there goes for $100, so the photographer share is probably around $25 for non-exclusive.

So I think it's a typo.

I actually said over 2000$ not over 200$ :)
They seem to be getting a lot more images indexed on tineye there weren't nearly that many hits when I looked a few weeks ago.

That's using a beta picture search engine with a limited number of images to search, "To date, TinEye has indexed 701,666,310 images from the web."

and that is only on the web.
I find that scary.

No need to apologize. My point is that it has made over 2000$ and hopefully will continue making money for at least a couple more years so I'm not about to complain about any use as long as it is used within the rights of the license bought. This is a numbers game not about individual sales.

Never heard of tineye before, nor of any other means to search the web for a certain picture - so thought I definitely should give it a go. And hey - it's absolutely marvelous!

Thanks for sharing the link!

I want to thank you Laurin for saying it! I am new to the MS. I have been involved with art all of my days but, I have just started working with Illustrator, so I am very much a novice at it. The MS has offered me the opportunity to practice for a reason. I would not have produced the quantity without reason!
I admit I feel that I am having a few pennies thrown my way for a vector that took me a day to make. Yes it will eventually add up but I still feel a sting that someone was able to purchase it for pennies!
The work of an artist is something that took not only years of school but also a lifetime of living your art. It takes a Dr 8 years of school-it takes an artist a lifetime. The Internet is making us free for the taking. I have not yet been paid for ant EL, but I feel sure that my images are over-used with or without any license being purchased. I really do want to make a living at this; giving it away does not pay the rent! I hope for all of us that we can find a better way!

I understand.and about how much I made from that sale. I really don't know and really didn't care, being non exclusive over there I see my stuff going for 20 cents to a few dollars. I don't pay that much attention Because it's what it is.I only pay attention here and don't really Like that site anyway. So if it was $1.60 or 20 dollars, It's still to low either way But, Were all in or all out.It was the principle and being able to control The quality of a print on an Image that I OWN!! Nothing More.. And BTW, Since,I've been told he was in violation of the agreement.About the art thing. I remember once 35 years or so ago going to a Show by one of the most famous Abstract painters in the world and I got to spend some time with him. As we were looking a one of his Huge pieces I asked him....How long did it take you to do this? he said "My entire Life" I stole that line and use it all the time.

And, I might add from experience, They don't need a EL or a large size to sell prints. Things can be rezzed up to 16x20 prints very easily with good rip programs.Happens all the time.Hell we did Billboards from 35MM long before Digital.

I hear you on that. I had referred 10 people to 'that site' before I even knew I had any referrals there. If it doesn't happen on SS, there is little chance that I know it happened.

You had a post a while back somewhere that you were thinking about going exclusive. I guess that would be one of that advantages of exclusivity, you could keep closer tab on what happens to your images. But the original question of this thread would remain: Even if you kept closer tabs, what finally could you do about the things that happen?

(BTW love your new Dark Side avatar image.)

I've been seriously considering going RM to macro sites for the reasons discussed above and have already started doing so. Not sure whether I will give up the micro game completely at this stage. The way things are going though it looks like the gap between the two is narrowing.

I agree with Laurin's original post that it seems kinda wrong that someone can purchase a fabulous image for next to nothing and start making huge profits on it.And profit from someone else's talent and hard work, while the original artist gets a couple of bucks at best. I think there ought to be a fairer deal for artists, althought that's probably just my wishful thinking..
