There are always going to be dishonest people in this world, and unfortunately they can buy an image for a dollar and make hundreds, maybe thousands on it selling it illegally in different ways and forms. I am sure people are using my images as well, but all we can do is continue to keep our eyes open and look out for each other.

I don't believe anyone was accused of illegal use in this instance and that is one of the virtues of the low price. It is hardly worth the risk of possible problems when it only costs a few dollars to be able to use images legally.

fred, your right. back in the old Composer days for me. I had a company [MCA] that owed me $30,000. My lawyer asked for $50,000 to sue them and it would take about 6 years. No thanks. But yes With the help of the community here keeping an eye out for everyone, We should at least persue it as best we as Individuals can.Thats basically The only thing we can do.To be Honest , This issue came to my attention from the owner of another Site.

We as artist's give away enough already without some Guy with $200.00 Making Money on our work. It's time we stand Up!!! ve CC'ed this to many organizations I belong to.

There is no guarantee that the guy will make ANY money from these images.

That about what he has to do,
set up a site,
set up a printer,
expenses
shipping
quality
headache.

I'll take the $1.60 and hope he is successful, it would be nice if I could get an artist credit on the image.

I agree with Laurin's original post that it seems kinda wrong that someone can purchase a fabulous image for next to nothing and start making huge profits on it.And profit from someone else's talent and hard work, while the original artist gets a couple of bucks at best. I think there ought to be a fairer deal for artists, althought that's probably just my wishful thinking..

We can dream....They can't take that away. LOL

To provide a better understanding of how our Enhanced Licenses work for subscribers, check out this article:

http://www.shutterstock.com/newsletter/33/article1.html

...or see this chart:

http://www.shutterstock.com/license_comparison.mhtml

...that outlines the differences between the Standard and Enhanced Licenses. Neither are a substitute for reading the actual TOS, but should provide you with a general idea of how they work.

Also, a reminder: If you have reason to believe that an image of yours that was sold through Shutterstock is being used by its end user in an illegal way, contact us immediately at Support@Shutterstock.com – the forums are not the place to alert us to this sort of issue and only serves to spread paranoia in other members. By the same token, if you are unhappy with the terms of an Enhanced License, you can either opt out of it or, again, contact us directly with your concerns. I understand most of you are simply venting but we do take such matters seriously.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

John

thanks for the support John. And I know SS does take these things seriously.Wish the others Did.What would you consider an accurate percentage of Images Lifted that are spotted and dealt with? I think it's pretty Darned Impossible unless it's blatent. I also wonder how many t-shirt shops on Islands selling our images printed on them to tourist's, Made in China That doesn't care about this issue in the slightest. Those profits far outweigh what any small website can sell prints for.

It's a big issue , I don't think anyones getting paranoid and in all honesty,This is what it is and we have to accept it in this age. It's part of doing business on the internet. Also, I dont believe in these cases That them buying an EL means a thing. all they need is a large size and or a backup CD.I post these things John because People ask Me the questions.

so I put it out there for discussion. Hasen't been the first time we have discussed this and probably wont be the last. But. It is what it is. I constantly get letters from folks asking what should they do? I tell them to Write a nice letter first asking where they got the image and then ask to see the agreement. from there, It either goes 2 ways.

I actually agreed on a nice settlement last year By handling it myself. Thanks for chiming in.

Also, Just for discussion. it would be grand If we could optout or in on a per image basis. Is that possible? I've done this at all the others sites I submit to on the images I want to protect But, Like I say, It never seemed to matter.Anyone that knows what there doing can get a pretty decent print from 3/4 MP
