I have spoken with my friend who was working in huge on-line service...

The main problem here seems to be SEARCH ENGINE in combination with system and numerous changes (or as we know ADDING) in main data base...

The solutions when some coder approaches to huge system and engine are mostly tweaking known issues which are reported as bugs...

The main problem comes out when search engine must make huge index file through numerous base which is changing. Also probably there is several Layers of base and that is not visible from outside but that is typical when making base expansions solutions but did not upgrading it!
The main solutions in cases where you have on-line system is just patching known bugs with less or more success! There is no one who can have guts to write all over again on the right way.
The other problem is 1000+ pages of Knuth's book about search engines and data bases which were read but also understood by very low number of IT developers and coders. On that positions nowdays work mostly just mediocre ('B' class) and low level ('C' class) experts in best cases if they are not self-learned (NO CLASS) 'experts'!
As conclusion in my conversation with my friend he said there is other solution which involves technology and real ('A' class) experts. The problem SS is facing consists in huge investment needed to make system thechnology fits its size with people who know-how to handle issues before they really happen.

SS is not baby anymore - it is quite a player on the market!

Seems owner of shutterstock will need to give up from few millions of $$$ to make investment that this system work as it should perform. The best solution: New technology with completely new ('A' class proven) system and IT software developers.

We all know SS works perfect and that perfection is no subject of any comment! Also ANY BIG SYSTEM works perfectly and that also is no subject of any comment!

BUT ANY SYSTEM CAN BE IMPROVED AND MADE EVEN MORE PERFECT!
I hope that investment ahead will be bullseye again as it was idea with starting SS!

[edits] some tweakings of typing bugs ;-)

new proposition from me how to make submitters life better:
categories must be checked more strictly - because now if you look, for example, in Objects category, there is everything there - from vector monkeys to brick walls.
