Looks like they connected the buy/view keywords with image keywords + sure other weights, so there can be funny search results cause at DS You can see that after a 'woman' search phrase the 'Lips' image can be sold and vice versa which is not the coolest idea. But it's just a guess. Add to it the spammed or just ambigous keywords.
As for now the new great algorithm suc!@# a lot;) for me. Will see |

one of the worst bastardizations of keywords must be this one. i direct this to you because you have experience in reviewing images.
I occasionally see a portrait or other image where the main subject is a women and the submitter has entered the keyword BEAUTIFUL, or GORGEOUS or SEXY.
Now i know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some of these ladies would come in last in a dog show.. I have to laugh and maybe you have come across this. Like what do you do.. send a note back with 'improper use of keywords' ? I mean, you could conceivably enter 'beautiful' or 'handsome' on every human being image right ? why bother ? Do clients actually search on the word 'beautiful' ????
It might be marketing on the part of the submitter.. but what's a client to do when they are looking for an UGLY person for an ad ?

Its great! i always try to keyword as appropiate as i can but sometimes i get it wrong though. Or the rewiever gets it wrong. I had to resubmitt a few but i would be really great to know which of the word was bad so i dont make the same mistake again. Just to save me and the people working at the site time. |

I think the changes may have helped with the irrelevant keywording issues, but not eliminated them. I noticed before that if you search for "Virginia" with photos only, then you get a bunch of pictures of tigers as well, or if you search "Slovenia", there are a bunch of pictures of lions. I tried it again, and though there are still some of those pictures there, it's not as many as before. Why you would keyword a tiger with Virginia, I'll never know. |

Let's only hope that this will give us more opportunities to have exposure and make money.
I don't know why but I don't have those good vides I'm used to... Maybe I'm wrong since the thing was well explained and written in a way that leads you to positive thinking: case in point.

I just did a search for diamond brooch, trying to find out where my photo comes up. It is buried half way down page two behind lots of photos of rings, earrings and unset rubies to name a few. |

I would be HIGHLY against them divulging the ranking algorithm. While I would love it myself, the more people know it, the more they "game" the system and the worse it becomes. |

I did a search of "Christmas" and checked "photos only". Page 1 looked great, but beyond that we can't possibly be seeing the most popular Christmas images. Many were extremely old and not up to current quality standards. When I searched "Christmas" all images, the images looked appropriate. Might there be a bug if we search "photos only"? Is the system still adjusting to the new search...sure hope so. Maybe it is just me...does anyone else think this looks off starting with page 2 under "photos only" of the Christmas search? |

it's not funny, go to most popular searches and see what's on first place in past week -"clitoritis".
I clicked on this link, but it was very disappointing :) |

STEVE. You WOULD BE TOTALLY SHOCKED at what I see. The thread "A day In the life of a reviewer" Is Childs play as to what REALLY gets submitted. I see women with keywords Like beatiful and sexy and glamour that are shameful to say the least. Ya know what? If the lighting is good, There in focus and no Noise. I have to accept. I Kills me each and every time. I look for the smallest issue to reject. i could write 10 paragraphs on some of the things people submit. Some things , I have to call my wife in because she would never believe me.Trust me.... It's that bad.I won't even go into the stuff I see all the time.
And ya wonder why I get testy with people. |

emmm, I see a lot of really crappy works on the first pages of my searches. Most of the beautiful works has dissapeared. I couldn't find some of my bestsellers now. At all!
And of course no sales during this night (in europe). I don't like this new most popular :( We will all have much troubles with it |

for the inappropriate keywords there is a thread already:
http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2165
last time a reviewer commented on it was 2 years ago... there should be an option to report pics with bad keywords and an intern on the other end deleting those... |
