Is ITIN really needed?

another microstock agency named V. which just opened to submitters today asks to fill a Form W-8BEN but no ITIN is needed!

Any possibilities that ITIN is not needed for Shutterstock as well? Since ITIN is the difficult part to obtain, this would be great news.

Here's what they say, copied and pasted from their web site:

"US Taxpayer Identification Number
Good news! As long as you are the Rights Holder and from a treaty country – you do NOT need a US Taxpayer Identification Number to claim treaty benefits. Sweet!

If you are from a treaty country and you are NOT the Rights Holder, you will need a US Taxpayer Identification Number (US TIN) to receive treaty benefits.

Even if you are from a non-treaty country, as long as you are the Rights Holder you also do not need a US Taxpayer Identification Number."

Yep, I just signed this W8-BEN at VMP as well, and saw the same text. Maybe they have better tax counsel? ;-)

They have one from Corbis - and they are in business much longer than SS.
