Why do I need a TIN???
I got a VAT number, isn't that enough?
I don't live in the US, why do I need to apply for a TIN?
None of the other stock agencies ever asked for it! |

Do you submit someone else's work?
If all you do is submit your OWN work then you are also an individual. An individual can have a catering company, but also can submit images as an individual! :) You can also have as many companies as you like! Catering, web design, graphics, you are free to do as much business as you want! This does not mean you submit images as a company.
But if your business is about photography and you submit on behalf of that company then you are right! You need it! |

Hi gregor,
If you're in group B2, you'll probably need an EIN. Since you submit as an entity (correct?), you should also consider consulting your tax advisor to determine exactly what documentation you'll need.
You can also email taxhelp@shutterstock.com for further assistance.

Huh??? what's an EIN? What's AFAIK? What's an entity? I don't know how my company is called in the American tax mumbojumbo!!!
And yes, I only submit my own work!
I don't reed anything about EIN or AFAIK or whatever in the Tax center. Where can I find this information? |

Getting an EIN for your foreign entity is done by using an SS4 form and applying by phone or fax. It's easy and quick. We have provided SS4 instructions in the Tax Center.
thx

Is using google that hard?
AFAIK - as far as I know
EIN - employer identification number
If you want to know more about it read this stuff
Your EU VAT number has nothing to do with it.
If you just don't get the "mumbojumbo", let an accountant do it. |

Are you a one man business or do you have employees?
A friend of mine submits to SS as an illustration agent and he also submits on behalf of the artists he represents. That's why he needs an EIN
I don't thing you are in the same situation gregor! You are worrying for something unnecessary as I can see!
1- What is your company about? Related to photograpy? are you an agent?
2- Is it a one man business? |

I'm in a simular situation as Gregor ... I have a small business (with my wife). I don't have employees. Everything I submit here at SS is made by me. But my PayPall account is related to my business. So is it a problem if I use the individual W8 form or must I obtain an EIN to submit as an entity and use one of the other W8 forms? |

You should consult your tax advisor to be certain, but it sounds like you fall into category B2, and would need to fill out an SS4 to get an EIN.
The form is available in our tax center.
