I'm not Anja but here is my opinion....
They look great
The first set some character are difficult to read.
On the other hand it doesn't matter because they are real nice to look at and in the past they used also this kind of font for decoration purpose only. |

Oh ... I'm feeling honored, really. :)
I'm far from being an expert, tho. Still learning to use fonts and haven't done one on my own yet.
To convert it into a font, you'll need some software like font creator (http://www.high-logic.com/download.html)
I'll write something on your examples later on, ok? There are some details, which caught my eye, but I'm still at work at the moment. :) |

Yeah, Font Creator is great. Used it my self and found it very easy. Only downside to that is the trial eventually runs out. ;) |

Ok, here I'm back again. (Sorry, got too late yesterday.)
First of all: I really like it. Should be fun working with it. :)
And I think, that gothic fonts are highly on demand at the moment as well. Finally people noticed, that they are not "typical" for the lettering during the Third Reich, I guess. *g (Hitler actually tried to antiquate them, btw.)
Two things, I've noticed so far:
The first one is about the vertical lines within the letters; their width differs a little too much, I'd say. Especially those of the "o" and the middle one ot the "m". The ones of "e" and "l" are way too strong, as a comparison. I like black letters which don't look too "constructed", but that'll make the text too agitated, imho. I would try to adjust them a little.
Same for the width of the white space within the "a" and the "o" and the width of the letters themselves. The width of the lower cases and especially of those two should correspond.
Anyways, the white space between and within the letters is as important as the letters' shape.
And that's the second thing I noticed looking at the "tattoo" example. You'll have to work alot on the spacing. Guess, you can adjust it using font creator, but as I already said, I don't have any experience with that, either.
As for experience ... I'd recommend you to ask Evan, too. HE's the expert for fonts. :)
Btw, I'm planning a similar project, so, maybe I'll get back to you vice versa asking for advice soon. :)
I have a collection of old mags from 1911. It's called "Magazin for Catholic Mothers and Housewives". *grins* Contains lots of great vintge advertising and those, which don't use their own fonts (corporate ones) are written in a very special one, which looks really "typical" for that era. I need to do a little research first, because I don't know, whether it is copyrighted, but if it isn't, I'm going to do a font based on that one. And I have enough material for a regular and a bold version as well! All cases included. :)
I'm pretty curious, what I'll come up with.

Ah, there you are! I've already been wondering, if I scared you off or something! :)
And you're always welcome - I really love to discuss things like that, especially because I'm trying to learn more about fonts and how to make them, too.
As I said before: I'll get back to you soon asking you some questions as well. I've already started with mine in the meantime. Hope, we'll get them both done together. :) |

*rofl*
I don't want to sell it. There are people, who've been creating fonts for their entire lives - why should my first one become good enough to be a commercial one? Nah, just want to find out, if and how it works, and then maybe use it myself every now and then. :) |

I must tell you all that these were rejected! for being a comercial font???? I have handtraced the letters. Besides the author of these was living in 15th century and I think he might be dead for more than 70 years and the copywrites aren't there any more.
Altho this is a big aproval of my skills that the reviewer thought this was from a comercial font.
Should I resubmit and explain??

Hi.
If you want to evaluate your font work, try do not use effects in presentation, also use normal optimal kerning in the string. |
