I'm looking for a good telephoto zoom lens but I'm on a limited budget so which one of these two would you recommend I buy (or something else maybe)?

Nikon Auto Focus
80-200 F2.8 D MACRO ED (77) 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM TELEPHOTO LENS.....from KEH it would be $569 in excellent condition

or

Nikon Digital
55-200 F4-5.6 G ED INTERNAL FOCUS DX AUTO FOCUS-S VR (52) WITH HOOD, CAPS, DIGITAL SLR ZOOM STANDARD ANGLE LENS.....from Craigslist I could probably get it used for around $150

Does VR make that much of a difference shooting hand-held?

Also should I buy...

Nikon Digital
D200 10.2 MEGAPIXEL WITH BATTERY & CHARGER (CF CARD ) DIGITAL SLR INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA......excellent condition from KEH $600

or

Nikon D90 New body only from Dan's Camera City (a local camera dealer by me).....$879

Thanks.

Go for it!! (Make sure it has the tripod mount)

The 55-200 is a silly toy. Erase it from your mind!!

The D90 vs the D200 is a toss-up.
The D200 is a bit higher end, but older technology.
While I have never shot the D90, there are some huge fans here and it is newer technology.

Why not keep an eye out at KEH or B&H for a used D90.

Orrr.....I you stumble across a deal for a D300 .... jump on it!

That 80-200 sounds good.
Why not consider a 70-300 VR? I love that thing.

Neither of them compare to the 70-200mm VR F2.8, awesome glass, my #1 tool, but then neither does the price!

thanks...im would really love the 70-200 2.8 vr but at the moment I cant afford the $2000 price tag (even if I bought it used). I'm kinda thinking that if I went and bought a used cheapy 55-200 vr that I wouldnt use too much money and I'd have more money to save towards to 70-200. would the does anybody here use the 55-200 for stock or is it just too bad of a lens to work with for stock? so at the moment its the 55-200 used and save for the 70-200 or the 80-200 used or 70-300 used and save for the 70-200 (buts its going to take longer.

So now my question is...will it take longer to make money using the 55-200 and having a little more savings to start with or get the more expensice 80-200 or 70-300 and hopefully the better quality of the lens will help me get more pictures accepted therefore making me more money

yes, i know its the photographer who is the deciding factor not the lens but just wondering

thanks
