I am about to receive my Canon 7D, upgrading from 40D.
I noticed that whereas my 40D's exposure meter indicates ±2 stops, the 7D can display ±3 stops.
Does this mean that the dynamic range of the camera is 2 stops greater? What I mean is that on my 40D when the meter blinks off to the right, then I've got clipped highlights on the resultant image. But on the 7D's meter, that blinking indicator would still be well within the range of the meter... would I still have clipped highlights? |

Probably does have a bit more dynamic range, but I think what you're looking at is how much exposure can be compensated. |

Well, exposure compensation is now ±5 stops on the 7D, plus two more if you bracket. But that doesn't concern me at all, really.
It's going to take me a while getting used to not equating top-of-the-meter with threshold-of-highlights. Hmmm... |
