Both I and everyone I know, who's working in this business, actually use Illustrator as part of the complete CS 2/3/4. Some on a Mac, others on PCs, but noone I'm aware of uses Corel. |
Exactly as I said in my previous post, Illustrator is used in graphic industry and Corel is mostly in small or home business as travel agencies or small printing companies. It is mainly because of the software price.
So shall we close in our small graphic designers company and forget of the rest of the World because it is incompatible with us? |
Of course not. And I didn't say that, either.
That was exactely my point, when I asked (somewhere above) to what extend eps ai10 would cause some additional issues in Corel and Inkscape regardless of the use of transparency. It's just that I simply don't know that, because I've always used Illustrator myself. Just asking. :)
Most probably, I'll also continue to (mainly) submit eps ai8, if that's easier for some of the buyers, because I'm already used to working without transparencies and other fancy features anyways. :) |

I also have problems with saving EPS10 (ERROR:"Can`t save the illustration. Can`t print the illustration."). Does anyone know what the actually problem is. |

That's strange. I would try re-installing Illustrator, as suwanneeredhead already said, but I'm not sure what causes this problem, either. Maybe you could try to save an older file (built as ai8 one) as ai10 first, in order to make sure, that it isn't caused by anything within the file itself. But if I had to make a guess, I'd say it's the program. |

I just did a simple test on CS2. I created two overlapping rectangles, each with gradients, then applied a transparency to the top. When saved in eps8 it generated a bitmap (as expected) while eps10 saved as vector (as expected).
I googled the error people were getting (Can't Save the Illustration. Can't Print the Illustration) and found an adobe page explaining that means the artwork contains more than 28 spot colors. Link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330238.html |

I've already read most of the themes for this problem and really no solution. It is not a problem in the colors since I drew something very simple, not a problem in the fonts, I did not use them, I have not used any transparency or gradient. Just who has this problem for now - no solution yet. I tried to save as EPS8 then EPS10, not worth. Eps8 save without problems, but no way EPS10. |

Maybe the spot colors are in your swatch library. Try running the action "delete unused palette items" before saving as eps10 to clean up your workspace. |

And me without a working computer *pouts*. It's nice the file size limit has gone up and I had a few rejected for rasterizing. Once I get back on a comp and online I'll be able to play around a bit to see what I can do. Can't wait. |

Well, I like the idea of making some of the vectors as EPS10, but I don`t think I will make all of them that way. As a tryout I submitted one as EPS10, just for fun :)So, a little pimping...it is not online yet, I hope it will be soon....it has all sorts of transparencies and meshes :) Here it is: |

That is tooooo long discussion. So can anybody give exactly answers:
1. Can I submit AI10 files (Reason is that is much flexible than eps10, and almost the only good openable file format for Corel)
2.Can I embed a pure transparent objects?
3. If it Yes can I embed MASKED transparent objects? |

Yes you can upload EPS-8 or EPS-10 now.
Embed? Wouldn't "embed" be for a placed object (raster)? Forgive me if I'm wrong. You can't use any rasterized objects. Do you mean USE a transparent object? I have used transparency and saved to EPS-10 on a new graphic and it was approved. Try it out yourself.
Re #1, you say EPS-10 is the only good "openable" file format for Corel Draw? I have a copy of Corel Draw 12 and cannot get any of my vectors, EPS-8 or 10, to be truly editable... I can see them, I can change around a thing or two, but mostly they are useless. How do you get it to open and be truly editable? Is there something I'm missing?
Regarding the buzz about my stating that all the world should use Illustrator, you misconstrued... all I am saying is, why do we have to stay in the dark ages with our work because of a software that cannot keep up? Personally I like software that works and doesn't cause problems for my customers, and I like to use the newest and best so I can continue to evolve my style and use all of the tools that are available for me to use.

1. Don't believe so - it has to be eps10
yes to 2 and 3 but experiment and see what you can and cannot do :)
Stacey, Corel can hardly be called a software that doesn't keep up - I believe some features like transparent gradients have been part of the software for years whereas Adobe Illustrator has only just brought it in (CS4).
My issue with Corel was it was never press print friendly - it might be now, I don't know. It does have some useful features which I still use if I can't do them in Illustrator - perspective for example. |
