#1 for "thunder" out of 67,000+ photos. Still hoping for #1 for "lightning" (currently #14) but it's hard to get past the vectors, maybe one of these days!

Great image - very dramatic! I've been waiting for a lightning storm to roll through my area some evening so I can try to get something similiar. But I'm sure yours will still top anything I'll get. :)

Thanks for the kind words! When the next storm rolls through, I say "go for it!" You've definitely got a boat load more photography skills than I do. The hardest thing is to keep the camera steady (light weight tripods not recommended). Also, use an infrared or wireless remote release. After that, it's the basics: exposure, composition, and lot and lots of pictures.

Love your avatar by the way!

congratulations, excellent images
as you are the "man of thunders" may i ask you how you deal with noise? your images are so perfect!!!

'ski jump helicopter'.

I get 22 out of a heap of 23. The one that isn't mine is a jumping bear cartoon. I guess I've got the 'ski jump helicopter' market reasonably sewn up on SS.

any sensible search puts me down on the second line or worse, so no laurel leaves coming my way.

Now that is a little more impressive than number 1 out of 8! Great image.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Thanks Alison! Those cartoons of yours are excellent, you really should be doing a line of greeting cards with those.

Thanks right back at ya. I don't know how big a boat my load of skills are, but I'll take the compliment. I still feel like a Newbie just learning the basics. Thanks also for the storm picture tips; hopefully I'll get the chance to use them.:)
