This is partially correct. They are not "Black and Tan". These are Tan with ONLY the hair tips black. Like they dipped them partially in the black paint. It's called Flamed. This is different than Black and Tan like a doberman or German Shepherd. The Tervuerense Shephers (From the town of Tervueren or Tervuren) could be black with grey tips. Also the Groenedael IS NOT a Belgium sheepdog as a separate breed. There is only The Belgium Shepherd with 4 varieties and they are all one and the same breed.
Also, The Laekense Shepherd (from the town of Laeken or Laken)is also flamed black. Being Black flamed is on e major criteria for the breed. Their difference is that they have a little rough curly coat (like a bad hair day) and a little pinkish (Rose)Nothing else.
I am sorry, I m back on my soapbox, but stuff like this drives me nuts. How hard is it to get it right? All they have to do is ask, but nooooo, they rather be better Catholics than the Pope. (Talking about French and the Pope, the Pope used to have his domicile in French, but that's a different story)

LOL Rudy my brother would likely flog me for my inaccuracy also.
If you mouse over the photo in this dutch page giving the history of "De Mechelse Herder" it coincides with your descriptions. So it seems from this site that if I want the beautiful rich black and tan color. I would have to get a nice Groenedael, but alas they are missing the cute rust dobie mug and eyebrows.

Now the last page won't load at all for me stupid can't display the page blah blah blah error.
I had 3 dl's before I went to bed was hoping there'd been way more when I got up. Been stuck on 7 for hours now.
I'll just keep plugging away with my 5 vectors and 5 rasters every week so hopefully something good will happen.

You babelfish link didn't work, but that's OK. I don't really need it LOL. Yes, that picture on www.vomschlossneuhorst.be shows all 4 varieties.
I love dobermans too ( I Love all dogs really) My brother in law had 2 (not at the same time) and all they wanted to do is sit on my lap (literary) and lick my nose LOL. I must have been an animal in a previous life or something lol
(Your method of typing in the numbers to get to the page works now, but a big PITA)
