Now stock industry has bad tendency to decrease authors royalties one-sidedly changing agreements (Incredible in normal business!). Stocks applying to the increasing competition between stocks. It is the very bad tendency which can destroy normal situation of mutual development of collaboration between artists and stocks. This problem is one of most discussed on independent stock forums now.
Shutterstock is one of the main leaders of stock industry. From the very beginning Shutterstock gives us only good news and a lot of artists hope not to be disappointed in future.
I have seen a lot of proposals to be exclusive with Shutterstock here and on independent forums . But Jon sad "I don't like exclusivity -- and i dont plan to lock anybody into ShutterStock." So exclusivity on Shutterstock is impossible.
But really we have some kind of exclusivity here - Red Carpet images are exclusive for two years.
On the forum of Russian stock artists some peoples have similar idea. Special program for artists: Participants of the program have to upload all new content on Shutterstock first. And only after 2 month artists can upload this content to other stocks.
Shutterstock have not to pay more for this. It is enough to add some additional coefficient in best mach ranking for this temporary exclusive images.
What participants would get: Better expouse of new images, more sales, more customers will search new images here.
What Shutterstock would get: Competition advantage ("We have exclusivity on new stock content!" "Searching new stock images? Only on Shutterstock!" etc.). Soon most of customers would understand: "If you need new fresh content - Shutterstock is the first place to search it!"
What do you think?

Super! Thank you! If the administration shutterstock will support this project - it will be very good. Because lawlessness on the part of other unacceptable stocks - it is the very bad tendency for the entire stock industry. |

That's great idea. Shutterstock remains the only fair stock photo agency among top three agencies, so I will participate in this possible program if it starts. |

I agree with zastavkin.
I like Shutterstock and I don't like what are doing now some other stocks. So if Shutterstock will make some special program like zastavkin sad, I think I will join it. |

Completely agree with zastavkin. In my opinion, Shutterstock now is the main and fair agency and I would like to work further with it.
Zastavkin's proposal wouldn't be so hard to realize by Shutterstock team (I see it like one more pop in/out or check box in My account) and I guess that many authors will join this program. |

I also like this idea. It does not involve 100% exclusivity like in other microstock agencies (so it has no disadvantages of exclusivity for contributors) but it will certainly provide SS with a certain competitive advantage.
Competition is tough in the microstock industry today so Shutterstock just has to do something to deal with its competitors (preferably without doing anything bad for us, contributors :). |
