Friends, I can buy the Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM now, or if I wait a few months (April-May) I can get the Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM
This will be my first true zoom telephoto lens, and I am very anxious. Any notes from those that have used either would be helpful on deciding, but will it be worth the wait???? |

The Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM is a wonderful lens. Top performance for the money! Ok, focus is kind of slow and noisy and you get some plastic feeling but overall is superb! |

If it were me....I would hold out for the quality of the "L" lens. Your going to have that lens for a long time, think how many photos your going to take. Buy the best, and you'll only have to buy it once. |

I own the 70-300 IS lens and it is OK, but I am in the process of converting to all L lenses. If you are thinking long term, I think you'll be making a better investment if you wait. |

Thanks to everyone for there replies. I think that is what the hard part is. Wait, and be more focused on long term, or get a new gadget/toy.etc now. Is there a massive difference in the focus speed and such between the two? Is it beneficial to have both? I know if nothing else I could have both by the end of this year but by then may have my eye on something new. |
