The sopranos series finale was the biggest disappointment I have had in a long time.

That is all.

Agreed. This season had progressed so nicely, getting away from the drab that was so dominant throughout the previous season, and in this very last episode they went right back to that same boring crap.

I get that the show's creators and producers were always trying to break away from the typical mafia drama, but wow did they ever break way too far from it in this final episode.

I watched it with my girlfriend and when the screen went black and the credits rolled, we both just looked at each other and said, "What the hell...?"

One thing I was happy about, though, was finally knowing what scene they had filmed over at my local gas station, Raceway on Routes 10 and 202 in Parsippany (Morris Plains). I won't give it away for those with Tivo, but it was the scene with the SUV that rolls away without a driver behind the wheel. ;)

One possibility is that since the show was generally from Tony's point of view, the screen going black was what Tony saw when he got whacked! I goes back a few episodes when Tony and Bobby were in the boat speculating about "Do you hear the one that finally gets you?"

I almost wonder if it's a creative marketing ploy to make people buy the season on DVD to see the 3 alternate endings. I hadn't planned on buying the season, but now I definitely will. I guess you got me, Mr. Chase.

I was dissapointed as well. That has been my favorite show since it started. I was looking forward to seeing it all day. I won't give anything away in case someone hasn't seen it yet.

I wonder if the 3 alternate endings will be worse than the one they showed?

My guess is that they shot the two most obvious ones, the ones people had betting pools going on. Then maybe something a bit unusual, and the one they aired (also unusual). Then Chase had his choice of which one to go with, and in typical Chase fashion he went with the most unexpected one. I think the alterenates are probably more along the lines of what people expected, not bad, but also maybe not good depending on which side you were rooting for.

ah, so in a previous life he might have been the cowboy Shane, slumped in his horse riding off into the sunset...

Gotta hand it to Mr. Chase...the ending was incredibly unpredictable! I'd come up with so many different scenarios during the week, and that sure wasn't one of them! It took me a few moments to recover enough from the shock of "What the hell?" to really appreciate the abrupt ending.

The main thing was that whatever happened to Tony, he was surrounded by his two favorite things in life...family and food. I think if he would have been whacked before our eyes and right in front of his family, a large part of the audience would have been downright pissed off, because so many have come to care about his family and don't want to see anything so horrible happen to them. They didn't deserve what Tony had coming. And the song "Don't Stop Believing" helped stimulate the imagination away from that awful scenario and towards believing that the FBI finally arrested him or that they just went on as a family to have another ordinary dinner that night. I also think if they had gone with an arrest, that wouldn't have been satisfying either, because fans would want to follow the trial and find out what happens. Thank goodness David Chase didn't leave us with another "Twin Peaks" ending.

Some things are best left up to the imagination.

I hate the sopranos. Enough of that crap going on in real life...happens every day in Toronto. Who wants to watch it on tv too?

I don't really get the reason people love it so much - even my 80 year old aunt thinks it's great.

Weird.

If Tony was whacked in the final episode, how could they make a big screen movie going forward with him in it? Follow the money trail.

My jaw is still open from that ending. Still waiting in front on my TV.
