I'm a bit late getting to this because I've been on vacation for a while. I was filling out the W-8BEN form, and it asks for my Social Security Number. I have a Social Insurance Number, as I'm Canadian. I'm guessing this isn't useable and I still have to file for an SSN card?

If you've been on a vacation, you may have missed the new tax center - this should help you determine what form you need to fill out.

I know which form I have to fill out - I was just wondering about that SSN number. I guess I have to file for one, and find out how to notarize a copy if my passport, because I'm not mailing the original.

And the other thing is, the form for the SSN says I need "US immigration documents" as well as my passport if I'm not a US citizen. But I don't plan to immigrate?

Which is why I was wondering if I need a SSN number?

You don't - you should be able to leave #6 (on the W8BEN) blank.
