I realize that us being able to spread word of the site is a good thing that can make us money when a new photog signs up. But I would like to point out that spamming forums is not the best way to get the word out. Not only do you annoy potential photographers by spamming their forums but you get site admins annoyed as well. What this is going to lead to is a large section of the photo forums not allowing discussion of SS on their sites. After you dump your link and run you wont think anything of it. But the rest of us that are members will have to suffer the consequences of your actions, if enough people get annoyed we wont be able to talk about SS or have our links in our signatures on forums. Don't be an idiot and ruin it for the rest of us, please.

lol - I know exactly what you mean - I followed the link to here checking on a spam link from a site I was moderating at - and I'm sure if that person is getting me as a referral they're very happy - it did leave me growling at the time though...

Cheers,
Stuart

I agree - please do not do this.

If anybody sees this happen -- please report it to us so we can stop it right away.

What is considered spam on a message board? If you ask a moderator for permission to post the link, is this considered spam? What about if you use a specific forum that is meant for this type of link? For example a photographers forum that has an area where you can post links for websites to post pictures?

Anytime you ask permission first it isnt spam.
Being an actyive member on a board with a link in a signature isnt spam unless its against their TOS,

Spamming is signing up opn a foum, pusting a link to a site with a referral and never to be seen again.

Also doing it over and over in various parts of their forum.

@stuart I know what site you mean. ;)

@ The Admin(s) Thanks for the PM and for taking it serious. I don't think any of your forum regulars are guilty of it. But I think that some of the newer members to the service who are kind of young and whatnot are the ones that are guilty of it. It's not a huge problem now but I can see it getting REALLY annoying as the membership increases and end up reflecting poorly on you and the brand.

@js10053 I think fnc gave good advice...if you ask and they say it is ok then go ahead and post. If you are already a member of a site then I am sure almost no one will care. But if your first post is about great money making abilities then it is probably spam. Heck I would say look around the forum and search for a thread already about the subject and then add to it or add your ref link to your profile if you have one. But don't start off by telling people how they can make money, get in good with some people then let them know how they can make money.
