I'm a newbie and wanted to know if there are recommended sizes for backgrounds, banners, icons, icon sets? |

Hi and welcome to Shutterstock and the forums! :)
For banners see this thread please: http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66433
As for the backgrounds, I'm usually using squares or US letter format, sometimes also German DIN (A4) formats, when I submit something, that was originally done for one of my clients, but wasn't used.
There's also an agency, which doesn't accept any formats but 380 x 400 px, therefor some of us do their illustrations on artboards of that size/ratio as well.
But other than that, you're allowed to use all formats you like.
Hope it helps.

I think I do all of my illustrations on an A3 artboard, and export jpegs @ 300dpi.
@Anja, is VS worth the hassle?I only have one vector there cause I was too lazy to resize the illustrations. |

@imagesofd: You're welcome! :)
@Claudiu: Yep, I'd say so. My portfolio is still pretty small over there (about 100 illustrations), but I'd estimate, that it'll be (money-wise) comparable to, say, DT as soon as I've uploaded the rest of my vectors. :) |

I've only got 2 on VS, coz I got so bored with waiting over 2 weeks for an approval/rejection. |

Rewiew times differ alot. I uploaded a batch of about ten illustrations recently and they were in two hours later. :) |
