hey guys..
i've been at shutterstock for over 2 months now and my portfolio is growing slowly as i have to shoot, upload and work on the picture next to my day job. so far i have 28 images in my gallery. but i hardly have any downloads. only 20 in total (!!)

what am i doing wrong? are the pictures not good enough? anything else i'm missing?
really looking forward to some input. my motivation is deteriorating...

At least you got yourself accepted. That by itself is a big accomplishment by my standards considering how high end SS is compared to other agencies. I like your images and with the right concept and right timing sales would come in soon. Being in the right place at the right time as they say. Me, I'm still here on my hands and knees trying to achieve what to you is history. Keep it up and good luck!!

thank you!
you'll make it too. i know the acceptance process can be frustrating. the most important thing i learnt so far is that you should never take it personal... which is hard sometimes.

I got accepted about 2 weeks ago. Up to 70 images now. I think you'll find that you need to keep uploading fresh images and make sure you put categories on your images. On SS you will get a lot more sales on your most recent images. (Of course there will be exceptions)

Favorites always sell and new ones are great too but yeah lots of competition these days, plus cheaters makes for rougher and tougher sales.

Carmen,
couple of things:
Images with more punch - color
Isolations need to be isolations, most of your white background subjects are not isolations, - gray backgrounds, white backgrounds with shadows.
More variety in the images
More images! - you need to upload at least 10 per week to keep on the radar screen of some of the buyers.
I notice that when I take a week off sales slump, two weeks off, even further. Upload constantly image sales continue upwards.

Carmen, buyers seem to look at newest images first. And if you don't have any very recent images, all the newer images get looked at before they get to yours. Once the buyer sees yours and likes it, he may scroll through your portfolio, again probably looking at newest first.

Beside uploading at least once a week, I think you should add more keywords.

Make a checklist before that shooting.

-how should i do it?

if you wanna take photos of a spoon, than you should search on this site for 'spoon' - with MOST POPULAR selected

-what does it sell?

when you read your favourite magazine, look at the photos you can find there, those are the popular photos
