Mine are (or were!) illustrations of generic sports cars. There were never any logos to be removed. There shouldn't be any type of legal trademark or copyright issue with these.

I just had 4 removed... all had cars in the image.
Even IS has accepted these images.

Why is SS in a withdrawal mode?

Could someone in the front office explain this to us???

P.S. I hope they don't start removing white fluffy dogs....

Just had a legitimate editorial shot of a police car in San Francisco's Chinese New Year Parade removed. Maybe it's because it wasn't properly described as editorial, since I uploaded it before they implemented the cutline rule.

And another removed photo is of the old abandoned, hollowed-out car at Bodie Ghost Town State Park in California, which is one of their most popular attractions. When people think of Bodie, they think of that car. So I guess anyone who wants to write an article about Bodie and needs a photo of that car will have to go elsewhere.

Thank goodness for rights-managed licensing.

I'm holding off submitting to SS until they can get the story line squared away. Instead, I'll continue marketing my images to editorial photo buyers on an RM basis.

Shutterstock's loss and a gain for editorial stock photographers, like me. ;-)

Just lost another 46 cars. So far I have had over 100 photos removed. No other agency seems to be doing this

Glad I haven't got any mobile phone photos or illustrations.
Oh and what about all those camera and ipod/iphone cloned shots.

Watch out...

Do you think it may help if I resubmit these images and provide the reviewers' crew with some additional information? Like, it is in the free public domain, not copyrighted, etc?

definitely that is what I'd do. I have nearly always found that when an appeal is properly presented with good grounds, that it is taken seriously by the reviewing team. Especially if the image is an important one for you.

Maybe you could let us know the outcome?

Well, I resubmit the images with sheet music background I informed the reviewers that this music is in public domain for long period of time (they can easily find it in free music resources), NOT copyrighted, it is not copyrighted arrangement (or other derivative work), etc?

However, as PaulCowan predicted they are not able to have time to check every single string of musical notes. The images were rejected with the following comment:

"Unfortunately we are unable to determine if this is an arrangement of the original (copyright could be held by the arranger) or merely a transcription or copy of the original. We would prefer to err on the side of caution with this particular image. We are aware of similar images on the site & we will be dealing with these on a case by case basis. Best regards".

They are offering indemnity to buyers from trademark/copyright issues up to $10,000,in order to attract more buyers to the site. One week before this happened here,IS did the same, for up to $25,000. Trouble is,the other microstock sites will need to do the same,or they will fall behind. "Viva La RM sites."Regards, Ken

Actually I hadn't thought about doing any more car images for a while, but this episode has inspired me to run off a whole load more and submit them elswhere as I'm expecting a large influx of buyers looking for all of the missing car images!

Are mobile phones and laptops going to be next? That will make some large holes in some portfolios!

Was it the Lone Cypress on the 17 Mile Drive in Carmel? If so, shere is a sign on the site notifying visitors that the tree is copyrighted.

I hate to ask, but is commercial photography (that would be us) allowed in California state parks (including Bodie)? Could someone check this?

What about some kind of compensation for loss of possible future earnings from those images removed, without our permission?

SS is following the trend of other agencies
