Not as cool as the helicopter but I just received my car mount I ordered from filmtools. Can't wait to get it on the car.

I also bought the triangulation kit to cut down on vibration. |
Fantastic, I really would love to see some results, please keep us posted.

Hey Fred,
How is the project coming?
I saw this video and thought about yours. Pretty cool.

Also I received the car mount and tested it this past weekend. Here is a video from that.

Unbelievable! The result is amazing on all levels. The helicopter is pretty hard to build and parrametre with the radio so I have couple weeks to go plus even with 10 years of flight simulator I had to buy a special RC flight sim to learn to fly, its way more difficult that I excpected but I'll keep you posted.
If I can get the same quality as you I'll be happy.
cheers,

Wow really cool, I can see the potential but still too much money. This is what I am trying to put together. Thanks for links, really interesting. |
Fred, which model is that? A T-Rex? Which kind? Is that really strong enough to carry a video DSLR?
Just asking because I could borrow a T-Rex 600 ESP for some tests... |

Jake the footage looks excellent, much smoother than I thought.
I tried it with a home made mount, what I found was that especially for a non convertible vehicle, you need a light. I have seen people using led shop lights, which might need a daylight gel or ctr gel. |

Thanks!
I have one of these micro pro lights, so I'm going to use that for some other video I've been thinking of.

The trick to getting the video smooth was using the triangulation kit that attaches to the top of the camera.
I have a small diy suction cup mount I made that has the same shaky problem.
I think another suction cup mounted to the car at a right angle to the camera mount and a rod attached from that to the top of the camera would keep it from vibrating. |

Hey Varius, yes this is a 600, I have a 500 which is powerful enough for the 5d, the 600 could carry 4 to 6 pounds maybe more, those things are very powerful but don't expect to fly it just like that, you need months of practice, try RealFlight Sim the trex is in it and is very cheap.

Yes I'm going to give it a try, I already have a 3 suction cup used for carrying glass for $8, I'm going to get another one and see if I can rig something up. |

Haha me neither, I am having fun with the simulator but will not attach anything until I get the take of and landing with my eyes closed. I will start with a JVC Averio HD first anyway.
This one is cool to a big long but lots of potential:
