I've got a question to bump this up. Been playing around and found tips on how to make the 'glossy button' effect, but it uses the opacity mask in Illustrator. Does that work when saving as illustrator 8 or does it need to be 10? And even if it is 'allowed', is it a 'good idea'? Like how strokes are allowed, but it is better to convert to outline.

Hi Iris

When using opacity masks you need to save as eps10. I've used loads of opacity masks in my files and I haven't yet come across a problem with them. So I'd say it's ok to use them.

Don't forget to put eps10 in your vector file keywords though, and I always leave a note for the reviewer telling them opacity masks have been used in the vector file.

Got a few newbies on here I've noticed lately, so am bumping this one up again. Might help them out a bit.

Here is a great script for finding those pesky open paths before you upload:

Best of all, it's free.

I've just sent an email to support asking if this thread can be made into a sticky. Hope they say it can then we won't have to keep bumping it up.

Good luck to all!

So much useful thread. I hope SS doesn't get mad of me to recommend an istockphoto link who helps much either. Though their standards are too much restricted and I 'm not sure I will submit istock as a beginner. Here is the link abot compatibility
http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=156
and this one for dos and donts:
http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=367

I strongly recommend SS to provide beginners with such a tutorial and even makes a MUST to read a tutorial to be a vector submitter. For the first time, I collected 4 vectors after hard working and submitted them in a once. All were rejected because of compatibility! So I started to find what was wrong, and now I know if they were not rejected for compatibility, there were still issues in the eps file to make an instant rejection. So keep posting.

Now my question is if the eps10 files sells less? or the same as eps8?
The next is that there are lots of versions of eps to save with illustrator CS3. When most stock companies don't accept even eps10 (they stick to eps8) what is epsCS3 or epsCS2 good for?
Another thing is if I have to name the groups as they seem. e.g. name the group which contain stars as "stars" or I can leave it just Group1?

LOL ... some people use Adobe Illustrator for things OTHER than illustrating for the stock industry!
