Hi Jon, and Andrea!
I am wondering how those submission percentages are counted. As in, what is your stance on 'someone who consistantly submits photos that get rejected' - i have 15 approved and 11 rejected (i must be a good clip artist, and a poor photographer. :) i'm learning, however.)
I have seen Ursula talk about this worry.
So, to put everyone's mind at ease, what are your criteria?
if i had 15 approved and 19 rejected? I am trying to determine what is going to be approved before I shoot and upload it. my first week I was sweating bullets (sorta) thinking that before I even started i'd be finished.
if there is a thread in archive that answers this, please just link to it. Otherwise, I, and a few others, from what I can gather, would like to hear how we can stay out of the 'danger zone'.
thanks!

Hey, fab idea! :)
Before all my dumb beach pictures I put up I had
Total Approved Photos: 21
Total Rejected Photos: 14
(was content with this)
But NOW...
Total Approved Photos: 23
Total Rejected Photos: 32
Bah. I took some really 'stock-like' pictures today though so I'll try to get it back up. |

My ratio is not good, either: 14 approved to 20 rejected. :( I think I'm learning what they're looking for, which is good.
Is there reason to be nervous if the ratio isn't high? |

This is the hardest site I've found to get images accepted. My accept/reject rate is fairly consistent now at about 2:1 (much worse than the other 2 sites I contribute to) and, I'm sure like everyone else, I've had loads of images rejected that are selling well elsewhere.
I guess it's a variety/storage-limitation thing. I'm still making more money here than anywhere else though __ and its the easiest and best upload facility too! |

Its just the opposite for me. Out of the 5 stock sites I submit photos to, the others reject FAR more often that Shutterstock. So far I only have 1 rejected photo here and I have more sales here than on those sites.
Different people/sites look for different things. So as long as your pictures are getting accepted somewhere, you should be happy. |

my point being that they'll delete your account if you 'consistently send in substandard photos' or whatever the FAQ says.
i'm just going to assume that this means 'no 15 year old kid with a webcam accounts', and that we have little to worry about, right? Shutter? right?

First post on this board (been watching a while, though).
So far I've submitted 24 photos. 21 have been accepted and 3 have been rejected.
In the short amount of time I've been using shutterstock, I've had more downloads per capita than the other service I use (istock). I read earlier someone saying they use "five" other services. Is it ok to ask what those are? I'm familiar with Alamy (and they ARE hard as heck to get into), but no others.

Eyeful,
I have to say I think your message above, in which you not only explicitly name other sites but have also apparently provided links to them, is both extremely rude and downright insulting to Jon and the team __ this is his site for God's sake.
If you desperately wanted to answer the query of the previous contributor then you could have sent them a PM.
There's no secrets out there __ a quick Google search can provide the answers to pretty much any question you have __ but to publish links to Jon's main competitors on his own website is wrong which ever way you look at it.
I don't know about anybody else but I'm making far more money and faster here than I have anywhere else that I've tried so I don't personally appreciate your feeble attempts to boost the opposition __ you could have had no other motive for doing what you did. |

Understandable. But calm down, I had no motive but to simply answer the question. I have edited my original post. Please try to keep you responses towards me respectful because I didn't mean any harm from anything and I don't appreciate you insinuating that I did.

Look, this isn't YOUR site and I could give a f**k less what YOU think. I have however removed the links out of respect for Jon. |
