OK, just been having a read up on this..
1st you need to get an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the IRS.. to do this as a citizen and resident of the UK you need to complete the W-7 form
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf
With this you need to submit your passport and send it to the US embassy in London. You can go in to the embassy to get the ITIN number (not sure if its instant or they just check your documents)
Once you have the ITIN number you can then complete the W-8BEN form and your done...
At least I think this is the case!!
I'll give the US Embassy a call on Monday to double check..
All this effort.. for the $10 I have made so far!!
@homeriscool - Perhaps we could change the name of this thread to identify it as a UK one.. :O)

You don't actually need an ITIN number. Just leave the space blank.

I know this is an old thread but I'm just checking as I also submit models to Turbosquid and they DO request a ITIN number with their W-8BEN form. So, just to be clear, you're saying that you definitely don't need one?
I'm still waiting to hear back from the embassy. It's been three weeks now. It'd be great if Shutterstock doesn't need one.
