I've edited out this information since Jon has looked into the matter of artists submitting vectors of software preset symbols.

The benefit of doubt, right. They might have been the Adobe creator because they use all the custom shapes from Photoshop too...who knows? |

H there, looks like you got overlooked. I use Adobe Illustrator. It is a very powerful tool for making vectors. There are other 'draw' programs, but I'm not too familiar with them, so maybe someone who uses something else could chime in. I think you can get a trial download of at the Adobe website (but I don't think it lets you save your images - not sure though - but maybe it's good to try before you buy).
I used to love Photoshop more - but Illustrator has some real great features and it is both precise and forgiving - which makes it an efficient tool!
Let us know when you've got some stuff we can look at :) |

I'm currently trying out a free program called Inkscape ( http://www.inkscape.org I believe) and it would be great if it didn't keep crashing my computer. Someone from Inkscape is trying to help me with that, though. |

Hi everyone, it's my first post here.
The trial download is a 30-day version, and it works just like the full version for those 30 days.
But it's big, about 115 mb to download I think.
Macromedia Flash can export to .eps too. But I guess it's a bit more jerky with the timeline and all.

I believe victor files do not compete with any .tiff or .jpg (photo image) file
Who ever is looking for a line art or clip-art illustration is probably not going to end up with a photo anyways. And the other way around. I know for a fact that this allow's us to show our creative talent in both areas. Photography and Illustration wish I believe go almost hand in hand. It also oppens up the door to many new buyers in the visual communication business. I'm in the advertising business and both area's are equally important.
Jon, has done a grate job by adding the .eps format (victor files) to this...our home.
Shutterstock ROCK'S
Good going and also....excellent illustrations out there... congrats to everyone.

Vector file size... is it common to ahve a file size around 7.5 mb for an eps file with 8 or so objects on it in black and one colour?
im exporting as tiff 300 dpi 8 bit colour, and including a header and "fountain steps" (which is a parameter im not sure about) is at 128
any suggestions on better settings? |

When you "export as TIFF" you are changing it from vector art to a bitmap (like a photo), which defeates the whole purpose. Vector art is saved as an EPS file. You can then export a low-resolution (e.g. 72 dpi) JPEG to attach as the preview image.
Even a quite complex vector with multiple colors and gradients should probably end up smaller than a couple of MB. |

thanks generalE
I guess i should be more specific in my question.
the file is being exported as an eps in corel draw, and i can select to also export the header as tiff at a variable dpi
the mid size file size is as a tiff at 72 dpi is this setting ok to upload vectors to SS or is it better to upload at a different dpi - from what I gather this setting only controls the appearance of the thumb in the eps file can anyone confirm this for me? or tell me ideal settings? |
