I was just about to post this. Isn't that wild? Who would have thought that possible. Makes you wonder what's next. |

Wow...although I have a feeling this will take a while to fully implement and be more convenient. |

Can you imagine the size of a RAW file from that camera? My RAW files are about 18 Mb from a 16 MP camera. Considering that this camera must record focus information for each pixel at each focus point, the size could be astronomical. |

The devil is always in the details. I'll believe this when I "see" it i.e. when it has been tested in the hands of someone who knows something about photography, not just a salesman.
My cynical side says that this is just a P&S camera with a built in photoshop "lens blur" and by clicking you are just adjusting the layers or something. |

A very close friend of mine and former students husband who is without a doubt one of the worlds leading experts on Optics [Think Hubble] never even heard of this when we had dinner a few weeks ago, I tried to explain it as best I could But couldn't so I sent him to the site to look at the math. Haven't heard back yet. |

Probably a gimmick which is a long way from being perfected.
Knowing technology and the marketeers behind it, they tend to release things long before they should... just so they can get ahead of the competition.
How do you get the whole picture sharp? |

I guess we can't fully judge until we see it for ourselves, but it's certainly not just a gimmick. It's a product of the CEOs graduate research and dissertation from Stanford. Based on physics, and the concept of light-fields. |

Bottom Line , even if it won't be good enough for our needs. It will be a massive success. 90% of camera sales worldwide are for the amateur consumer market. And once this technology gets into cellphone cameras It will be a game changer. |
