Hi,

Does anyone know what size circular polarisiing filter I need for a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

I cant find a 60mm thread one anywhere?
or a stepping ring for a 60mm lens.

I have a 58mm filter

not entirely sure what im talking about tbh, a lens says 60mm on it, so i assume that is the thread size? then i assume i look for a filter that says 60mm also.

i tried to find a stepping ring for my 58mm filter to 60mm but no luck.

Filter size for that lens should be 52mm.

on the inside of a lens cap it should have the filter size.60MM is the focal length.

Well blow me down, it actually does say 52mm on the inside of the cap. Thanks for that, I feel a bit of a idiot now.

I was thinking about buying this lens. Some say they use L-quality lenses for EF-S, and the sharpness should be outstanding. Downside is the upgradability but upside its lesser weight and less need of optic elements as it is closer to the sensor. Can you please tell me something about your experience with it? Personally i love the lens, but remember I only have a canon 450d and no L lenses. Its definately the lens I use 90% of the time, I have the tokina wide angle lens and canon zoom lens, and a hidious kit lens which never gets used.

Thanks to the help here i have ordered a step down ring 58 to 52 for £10. Id like some proper filters some day but while im saving for the 5D mk2 replacement (+ 2 or 3 L lenses) hopefully in the spring 2012, this will do.

Also remember EF-S Lenses will not work on a Full Frame camera like the 5D so when you get the 5D this lens will no longer be of any use to you.

Just bought the lens via (the Dutch equivalent of) eBay.

And in one go sold my 3 current lenses for a good price (even got rid of a 1000D kitlens for $15).
So pending more tests I am quite happy - you can get very close with the 60mm 2.8 (no need for an extention tube), USM AF is indeed very silent and fast, and it should be crisp sharp. And given the ease in selling my current lenses I am more confident whenever I buy a full-frame, I can resell this lens again. I will post a crop of sharpness when time.

oh man my step down ring came today....
it doesnt fit!!
And i was hoping to use it when i go on hols this week too.
it doesnt fit on the 60mm canon macro lens.

it is a 58 to 52 step down ring
The filter fits on the ring ok

ok (sheepish look) i think it should have been a step UP ring, not down?
