Here try yourself.
Take the tree from Jen and my Sky and make five layers with two pics that are different and see what you can get from them.

Is it my eyes or does the tree now have jaggies down the trunk?
I think Mark is right almost time for a beer:-) | Jeff i can refine it but i am just going through it quick to show what can be done.
And at one time when you accidentally washed money it would come out with an orange tinge to it but the newer bills come out green still. |
Don't try it with British money, you end up with snotty little balls in your pockets, Auzzie and NZ money both NOW seem to pass the wash test ;-)

I forgot to mention there was no changing of the colors everything that was done was done using layers and layers only .
No hue, sat adjustments or shadows or levels or contrast or anything else just all done in layers and only layers.

Don't have the time right now gotta do honey do's, but here is the process I would use on the full size image.
1. Go to SELECT > Color Range >
2. Set Fuzziness to 10, and use eye dropper to select all of the background, (Jens background was not a perfect white) and hit OK
3. Go back to SELECT and pick INVERSE
4. Back to SELECT, and pick MODIFY > Contract 1 Pixel
If not perfect at this point go to SELECT > MODIFY > FEATHER> 2 PIXELS
COPY and PASTE onto new background

Much the same here jeff. I just use that as a mask between the two and it allows me to touch up using paintbrush as/if required.

Most of my annoying blends are for trees on intricate landscapes, and I find that I save myself the most overall frustration if I just get a glass of wine and whip out the brush tool at like 3 px and mask away. Takes forever, but no silver-bullet "4 mouse clicks!" will get you better results than working by hand at 1000% magnification.

Thats the only way I can do it also. But I do have some friends that come over and can put wings on Monkeys in 10 seconds. Just blows me away watching. My Pea brain just doesn't wanna go there. Our friend Susan Is one of the best I've ever seen. scary good, Some folks can just get it naturally, I gotta force it, trouble is it's not fun then.Wish I had those analytical Skills. But I can Paint and Take pretty good Pictures and write a Hit song. LOL!

Here you go 3 layers 2 pics.
The white you see is from the white clouds in the blue sky shot.

RUX - the white fringing on your shot can be fixed if you learn to use a mask. Notice the tree trunk and edges of money. Nothing to do with clouds.
PS is not about how quick you do it but the end result. No one wishes to spend too long but masks allow reversible touch up and refinement.
