I figure it's time to upgrade. To me the standard Def is starting to go out of fashion pretty soon so to upate it looks like a HD wide. I know the XH A1, XL H1 or XH G1 Canon HD are lot more expensive than the new HV20 HD but will they really make a better movie, video or Clip? In reality will the $1000 expense get me in all real aspects the same quality as spending over $2500? What's all of your opionions?

Pretty hard to tell given that the HV20 is not available yet. ;-)

I definitly will wait for the HV20 to come out and have their first reviews before I decide on anything though. That one really seem promissing.

The main difference will be in the pro extras though. Better manual control over everything, sturdy camera body, larger sensor (thus less noise at low light), pro audio input (XLR socket), exchangable lense (XL H1)... But I guess we won't know for sure before we actually have one to try them out, right?

From other forum it looks like people are now buying it. Now to see if it can meet the quality video of the cams that cost 3 to 8 times more $

I guess I'll have to wait another month for the European version to hit the shelves... ;-)

I've been reading through the forums at www.listvideo.com they have some great reviews of the HV20. One of them says it as good as a camera 4 years ago that cost $30,000 .. wow I only wish.

Well, couldn't wait. I just called and ordered the HV20! I was able to price match an on-line discounter and ordered it through the military BX for $900 including ship and taxes. I think that was a prety good deal ;). Now the long wait starts ;(

It finally arrived. I bought it through the military exchange and they had to ship it directly from Japan. Battery is now charging and tonight or tomorrow the fun starts. With this Canon HD video camera and the Canon 5D with "L" lenses ... I'm lucky my wife kinda understands ;)

So got the camera, took a couple short clips to test it. Guess what. They give a USB cable for still photo transfer, two different cables for hooking a tv but no DV cable to transfer video to a computer. What are they thinking? The newest HD video camera, something that almost everyone will be hooking to a computer to transfer the video and no way to do it without driving to a computer store for a cable. Incredible. Shame on Canon!
Edit: There are three different places that they put connector access to. The USB is under the flip out screen, so to transfer pics via USB ya have to open the monitor.
