Ok, just got my new Canon HV20. Got the firewire cables. Windows XP loads it and everything looks normal in windows. When I open both Premier Elements 2 and also the Premier Pro CS3 (trial) I get the messege "can't activate recorder. try resetting camera". Ok reset many times. Reset 1394 ports in the register. Removed camera from device in system, and also checked for video device conflicts; none. So now I'm at ends on what to try. Any ideas?

After spending 1 1/2 hours on the phone to Canon support it was decided that the drivers for Windows XP will not support HD capture in any programs. They tried it in Premier as well as Windows Movie Maker. When the camera was set back to playback in normal SD mode it worked fine. In Windows Vista it also worked ok in HD mode. SOoooo if you get a HV20 and you are running Windows XP don't plan on using the HD capability. That kinda sucks ;(

don't know if will help you any, but had the same problem with my new Panasonic GS500 and premier...

In the end, I ended up doing the capture with MotionDV studio that came with the camera, and then just import the files into AP

(strange thing is that about a week later, Premier all of a sudden recognised the camera when I plugged it in... don't know why)

Hi I had a similar problem and sorted it this way.
When you use capture in elements and get the capture
window open. Their is a small button on the top right hand side called more. Go to more and open file there you will find capture settings and adobe premiere is set on normal by default, change to HDV and the red capture light shows. You must do this everytime you
use it. The problem I have I cannot get anyone to accept HD files in M2T format so I am using QT movie
and AVI. They are all screaming for HDV files yet you can't upload them????? Pete
