Hello everybody!

As you might have guessed, I'm new here.

Quick question:
I've just uploaded my first 10 photos for the initial review and was wondering, do I need to have a model release for these photos as well? I don't plan on selling them, the purpose is just to establish my photographic capacities!

Thanks in advance!

If you don't plan on selling them why submit them? Shutterstock is a stock site for selling images. If you did not want to sell them then you shouldn't have submitted them because if they are approved then they will be open for selling.

Seeing you did not post the shots we have no way to know if they would need a release or not. If there were recognizable people in the shot then yes a release is necessary. If you do not get the minimum 7 out of 10 accepted then you must wait 30 days before you can submit again for approval.

If all you wanted was to see if your shots stood up to the standards here at SS then all you needed to do was to post them according to directions in the critique forum and we would have taken a look at them.

A fellow contributor said I should post 10 of my best images for review and after that my account would be up to speed in the sense that i could actually upload stock images.

So I guess I have to delete some of them and submit what I would submit regularly!?

I suspect there's been a bit of a misunderstanding. First, posting images is totally different than submitting images. Posting them means to upload them to the forum so we can look at them and tell you what you need to know about them and offer any advice or constructive criticism we have to aid you in choosing acceptable images for you to submit. A model release isn't required to post them in the forum for us to critique. Submitting them to SS means you've uploaded them for review and inclusion in your portfolio (if they're accepted). If that's the case, a model release IS required when you submit them to SS (if there's a person in them), even if it's for an initial review.

Second, as far as your account being up to speed so you can upload images, that's ONLY if at least 7 of your 10 are deemed acceptable by the reviewers. As Dave said, if at least 7 are not accepted in your initial review, you can't even try again for 30 days.

The best thing, if you don't get at least 7 of your 10 accepted is to post them in the Critiques/Tips/Tricks forum and let us have a look at them BEFORE you [i]submit[i/] again.

Here's how to post them:

I think what the 'fellow contributor' meant when he/she said 'post them for review', he/she meant to post them in the forums, not submit them.
