My favorite also. I will be returning this September for my 4th trip. I can never get enough of that park.

Have fun :)

We haven't gotten much right when it comes to our natural resources here in the U.S. But the National Parks are a great thing. The U.S. really has some of the most magnificent scenery anywhere in the world.
Thankfully some early thinkers realized we needed to protect it. Happy Birthday Yellowstone !

Will you have that right, we have a few future thinking people to thank for the great system of National Parks, National Wildlife refuges and National Heritge sights. A great park of our country preserved forever.

I think Yellowstone is a 3 season park, winter, fall and spring. The place is just packed to much for me in the summer. I much rather see the survival in the dead of winter, the new birth in the spring and the fall with its awesome colors and beautiful wildlife.
Yellowstone river as seen from the mud pots in January:

Wolves can be difficult but sometimes you just get lucky! Early morning just above twin lakes we came accross a gray wolf howling. What a csow he put on.

I think you'll find it's a lot older than 140 years old. It just went by another name before 1872 ;-)

Wonderful place. A bit too busy for my tastes but still gorgeous.
I'm a bit spoiled being so close to Banff (the one that inspired Yellowstone) and Jasper though ;)

Yes I think you are correct. 1832 Hot Springs Reservation listed as the first in the Govt. book, "National Parks Portfolio" (1921)
Here's something else. I have my Golden Senior Pass and I've never been to a National Park, but I plan on it!
I've been to the National River a couple of times? ;) Valley of Fire for a couple of days. Many historic sites including my favorite, Effigy Mounds National Monument. Worked as a volunteer for Archaeological Rescue and a local museum.
It's been on the bucket list for a few years at least. I'm getting closer. And I mean the parks, not the bucket. (or both actually) LOL I need to stop working, dreaming and talking about it and Head West!
Angels Landing if it takes me all day.
