Dear Guys,

Got two things to ask

Firstly, I'll have a trip to Japan on the end of this month. What I'm curios is the model release. Is it possible to send the model release in Japanese? From my p.o.v., their English is not as good and I want them to clearly understand the right of the usage of the picture in their own language.

Secondly, does SS Prepare the Model release in Japanese for us?

Thirdly.... oops......!!!(sorry for this). Dream Theater will com to perform in Bangkok on May, the 8th. How can I join "On the Red Carpet Program"

Look forward to your answers and thanks a lot in advance for your kindnesses.

Cheers,

Niyom. ^ _ ^

There is a form to fill out to request credentials for "on the red carpet". I'm not sure how it would work for an international event but you can email support. Shutterstock has gotten me some credentials for sporting events.

I have not seen Shutterstock come out with a Japanese model release. I believe they came out with one in Portuguese (don't ask me why that language).

If the person does not speak English the only thing that I can suggest is to see if someone can translate one into Japanese, have the person read and initial that and then sign and submit the English original.

This is by no means the best way to do it and am not even sure if SS has any policy in place to cover these types of situations. I would actually love to hear how some of those in countries other than the US or English speaking countries do it and to see if SS has a policy in place to cover this.

I would think it would be best to have a release for each of the major languages put on one page, English on one side and the other language on the other then submit both sides of the release.

I just do not understand how a person who does not speak English would be comfortable signing a document that is not in their native language.

I did try something though. I changed the language of the SS site by using their language selector to see if by changing it to German or French etc the model release found on the site would be in that language. It was not, it was still in English.

Thank you for your suggestion, Dave. I'll find someone to do the translation. What I felt was the same as you, I do believe that it's not comfortable for them to sign the paper that's not their own language. ^ _ ^

The SS requirement is that all model releases submitted must be in the English language. You can try to have a duplicate copy in whatever language is appropriate or have a translator explain to the model what the English version says; but, bottom line is that the copy submitted to SS must be in English.
