Thank you ladies :) Only downside is it really wont make me rich (getting rich is overrated anyways ;)), so i better kick myself into some serious shooting stock-action again too!

Chickens are good tick eaters as well as being used as a good fried yardbird or as an egg layer.

Maybe you can outsource some of the animal care and send them to me ;) hehehe....

I don't think it's a lucky streak with those SODs, your pics are just so great :)

I just got in from feeding the animals and getting some firewood. We're supposed to get some rain in the next few days and it's supposed to get cooler, so we need to have a fire going at some point to keep it warm enough in here...
It's nice and balmy 72F (22C) right now, but tomorrow the high is only around 47F (8C).

Barry they're good for tick eating only if they're free range...
My flock would be reduced to zero in less than a day if I let them out of their run.....LOL

And like you any free running chicken around here is going to become lunch for something.

They probably would eat them inside their pen, but I doubt the ticks have any reason to go in there...LOL

Basically, chicken eat anything that doesn't eat them first.....

I gave my chickies free run for a while, it was a bad plan... they scratch and eat anything, more specifically all my fresh young plants as soon as they pop their heads above ground, its also amazing how much poop one little chicken can produce, let alone seven :/ its also amazing how much of that ends up on the bottom of your shoes eventually!

Sari, maybe you can start a sister center at your house! (not sure fedexing our beasties would work) As soon as people know about it you'd be surprised how many wounded beasties and fallen nests etc are out there to be brought over. Its a plan, its a plaaaahaaaan!! Start flyering already :D

Since no one else is really seeing it (and there's a bunch of grrreat ports around here, yours most and utter definitely included miss Okie) Im sure the SODs thing is just a streak! (i dare to bet i wont see one for a whole while now)

Even if my chickies managed to stay alive running free I wouldn't want them to get in my barn because they'd trash it...LOL
Horses would probably have fun chasing, them, too... :|

Out here you need all kinds of permits to take care of wild animals. And knowledge on how to take care of them would be pretty important, too.... LOL

When I was working at the training barn they had a couple from TX that were the trainer's clients, and those people were running a wild life rescue at their place. They had some interesting stories to tell, and one time they came to visit and they had their flying squirrel babies with them! They were absolutely adorable - and I got to hold them, too... :)

Yeah, the permit thingie is not different here...
..and we also couldnt help with advising on how to take care of the more exotic species :/ You'll have to come over and volunteer here then! ;)

Morning peeps.

Gonna be a nice one today so far 50F/10C and going to around 70F with wind picking up all afternoon long.

Looks like the port doors are closed so far.

Lobke I'm not sure if we have any flying squirrels here, but I know TX has them.

For the baby chickies - first I need to rehome - or eat - some roos... I have WAY too many roos... :(
I would like to have a Silkie or two since I don't have any now :( but I'm in no hurry with that.

Remember the blue/red chickie I had? I'm starting to think it's a roo, too. It's really big and the other day it was acting a little like a roo. The others of the same age are easy to tell whether they're roos or hens, but this one has been a mystery. I was wondering about the size, but since there was no crowing I figured it was a hen.... but maybe not...

There's a huge blob of rain above Oklahoma... and it keeps mostly missing us, we're only getting some stray sprinkles... you could not make this shit up if you tried :(
